Hi Pete and all,
Right, the Tall Boy bomb was used against Nazi sub pens but didn't do enough
damage to out them out of action. This was because of their unique
construction, under the thick layer of reinforced concrete was a huge empty
chamber under which another layer of reinforced concrete. It was in this
chamber the bomb exploded leaving a big hole in the layer above and a crater
in the one beneath but didn't collapse it or penetrate. Well, we tried and
thought we succeeded until spies reported the pens still operating. BTW there
is one in Russia now disused that is a tunnel through a mountain. It was
built to withstand atomic attack and probably would, even if one side was
destroyed there's another opening on the other side of the mountain.
Yup, the Lancaster was well suited to deliver the dam buster bomb but due to
the unique nature of the beast it was heavily modified. Naturally the best
part of the movie was the bomb runs, staying on a tight course while dodging
antiaircraft file required some considerable skill. As an aside, the dams
breaching looked a bit cheesy just as every other such movie scenario,
miniatures can't stand up to today's CGI.
In any war there is deception and it plays a very important part. That's why
everything is on a need to know basis and secrecy rules even at home, you
must remember the phrase loose lips sink ships. It's hard to keep Rosie the
Riveter in the dark when she's hands on so mum's the word.
I wouldn't really expect you to have seen Dubya's TV double, I've only seen
him a couple of times myself. He was on some comedy shows I seldom watch so
it was pure chance I saw him at all, I haven't botheredwith Saturday Night
Live since it went downhill after the Not Ready For Prime Time Players
disbanded. Even if they held together it wouldn't be the same without Gilda
Radner and John Belushi.
PBBS? I think you have one too many Bs, but in any case I haven't watched in
years since these days there is little of interest. I must have missed the
listing for Britain's X Files since looking at TV Guide on line I ignore
channels 2-13 being broadcast has been a wasteland for many years. Cable
isn't much better, you can update that song to 357 Channels And Nothing On.
Right, these days pilots seldom if ever mention UFOs for two reason, ridicule
and the grilling they'd get from the government spooks. Then they'd be
threatened with ruin and worse if they talked about it. Just another reason
never trust the government, trying to hide what cannot be hidden and looking
like a jackass for trying.
Oh and BTW you probably heard of the rock band called The Foo Fighters, hmmm.
