Hi Pete and all,

You mentioned scenery which reminded me that those mountain bridges and
tunnels are in the Austrian and Swiss Alps. I have pictures that look
strikingly similar... hmmm. Another interesting thing is the Germans didn't
treat Italians as enemies, Italy was an Axis power. The signal towers at
interlockings were manned by Italians but German soldiers were present, maybe
you should watch it again. The locomotive crew was Italian but expendable,
after all they defected.

Speaking of rocks on the track I have pictures of a Canadian National freight
that hit a rock slide and the locomotives slid down an embankment and nearly
into the river below. The rest of the train remained on the track having
become uncoupled when the locos went over. The crew escaped with minor
injuries and waited several hours for rescue and the engineer commented words
to the effect of "Wow, what a ride!"
