Hello Ian G0TEZ and Neil ZL1ANM and others;
Just wondering Ian, which movie you are referring to, as Neil
wrote back about another interesting movie, "Night to Remember"
concerning the CW.
As a result of "Dam Busters" I got a lot of emails, on it,
and some real stats of the attack. I imagine that it was
close to, but not the truth in many ways, but then as now
some material and operations are still classified by the
Government in London, so movie producers etc have to watch
their steps.
Some of the material removed from classified shows the deviations
the movie made, and that was interesting to hear about.
Regarding Gibson's dog, the squardon mascot. He was also referred
to as "Nigsy". I was like you, as well my family, as we never
used the word nigger, and usually coloured or if we knew the
country of origin , that was used.
"Dam Busters" as a movie, and the original I think was 1954 has
had remakes with the dog's name been changed to "Trigger" and
even "Digger". There is or not sure , as I never saw it a
version set or released in 2009 .... ???? but never saw
that one either. With material becoming un-classified, I wonder
if they will tell a more correct version, as they might
do with another WW2 tale, called "The Man that Never Was".
Interesting enough, as this is movies and reality ... the gravesite
monument was changed to let all know the real name of the man
buried there. That was done, I think 2008 after that event
became un-classified well after the fact.
Great movie, all about the deception to allow for a successful
landing in Sicily.
