Hello Warren and all.
What is the old saying about the UK and the USA ?
Two nations seperated by a common language.
We Brits find the lack of a perfect tense in American as slightly
confusing and slightly amusing as i:
Gee! I (have) just lost my purse (=handbag.)
As for the nouns,pronouns and proper nouns. I,personally have no problem
with treating my callsign as a proper noun, it is like my name, it is
unique so if someone wants to add 's to change it from the nominative to
the genitive case, I have no problem.
Spelling howlers make me squirm a bit. The most common being the confusion
between lose and loose but if someone is writing in an
interesting,knowledgeable way about a topic, I just don't care if they
make a misspelling or a typo.
NB I should have written 'do not' in the above sentence as 'don't and
similar contractions should only be used in conversations and reported
speech but I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.
As for the change in Google Earth, I had told Pete about the forgotten
Roman road 1/2 mile from where I was brought up. He said he had some
problems but I have,somewhere among the 1,000s of pictures on my disks, a
picture of the farm on which I was raised, so good that, had there been
someone sunbathing starkers on the lawn, I would have got a good view.
It would not be possible now, probably for the reasons you gave but I also
had a vey detailed view of the Roman road which was the point. So good
that
in 'Street View' I could drive along it at an apparent height of about 30'
or 10m if you like - not any more - a pity.
