UPDATE ON ESPERANTO - DEVELOPMENT(continued from newsletter 95/3)
In its earliest stages, the language consisted of about a thousand roots,
from which ten or twelve thousand words could be formed. It has developed
rapidly since then. Today the largest Esperanto dictionaries contain between
15,000 and 20,000 roots from which over 150,000 words can be formed. An
academy of Esperanto oversees the development of the language and a
Terminology Centre assists in the standardisation and expansion of technical
vocabulary.

UNDERGROUND LANGUAGE
An underground station on the Barcelona network has been named Dr. Zamenhof
in honour of the originator of Esperanto.
ESPERANTO MUSEUM
The Austrian National Library has taken on a new librarian for the
International Esperanto Museum. Helga Farukuoye graduated in Esperantology at
the University of Budapest.
PUBLISHING NEWS
A new 700-page dictionary of human anatomy has been published in China, in 5
languages - Chinese, Latin, English, French and Esperanto.
A volume of the famous Asteriks books has been published in Croatia. The
publishers are planning to produce 3 Asteriks titles per year from now on.
A major Slovakian technology magazine now includes Esperanto summaries of all
major items.
RADIO - HELP WANTED
Radio Warsaw is asking for assistance in assessing radio reception in
different European countries. Listen at 15.30 UTC on 7145 kHz and at 22.30 UTC
on 6000 kHz and send your coments to the Esperanto Section, pk.446, PL-00977

Radio Poland recently celebrated 35 years of Esperanto broadcasts.
CHARITY BEGINS AT HOME
NOJEF - Norwich Jubilee Esperanto Foundation provides financial help to young
British Esperantists (under 25) who wish to attend Esperanto congresses or to
travel overseas but cannot afford the cost. It will also provide funds for
young Esperantists from other countries to visit Britain.
ROCK AROUND THE WORLD
EUROKA, the Esperanto Rok-Asocio, is issuing a CD of Esperanto rock music,
including 15 tracks by different groups from around the world. Details about

CHESS
The top 5 in the international Esperantist Chess League include an American,,
Russian, Frenchman and 2 Lithuanians. Details of the league can be obtained
