Hi Ian and all,
I was being sarcastic, but as long as you want to be serious I may as
well seriously address a couple of points. The American AR exams all
include calculations of one sort or another and for the longest time the
Extra Class license was considered as an Assotiate EE degree equivelent.
I don't know about that now and I have my doubts since study only means
memorizing Qs and As. If one can pass a test given by the Society of
Broadcast Engineers (SBE) one is certified to operate transmitting
equipment, the equivelent of an FCC General Radio Operating License
(GROL) with whatever endorsements for AM, FM and TV. Yup, I too have
designed and built things but time marches on, technology races past us
and body parts fail making the building part difficult. I used to do
micro soldering, no more.
As for the alt codes, Winpack barfs but Notepad never has so why not do
your word comosition outside Winpack? Roger never told anybody that is
exactly what you're doing when working within the capture and text
folders where I do my off-line work. The Winpack editor sucks, I never
used it. I cut my packet teeth on the old Terminal program in Win 3.11
which was simply a gussied up DOS V2.6 and still hold it in reserve
because Winpack can't import and export files nor can it spool to disc,
Terminal can and Win XP runs it like a champ. Look ma, no DOS window!
Doesn't need one, XP emulates everything that came before and runs it all.
