- World Amateur Radio Day this Friday -

It's World Amateur Radio Day this Friday, the 18th of April. Each year the

International Amateur Radio Union commemorates the anniversary of its

formation on that date in 1925. The theme of this year's day is "Amateur

radio supporting technology education in the classroom". Ole Garpestad,

LA2RR, the Chairman of IARU Region 1, asks all national Amateur radio

societies in the Region to encourage young people into amateur radio. He

also urged amateurs to celebrate the day. He said, "All of us, societies and

individuals, can celebrate in our various ways - organising presentations,

club meetings, parties, honouring senior radio Amateurs who go back to the

early years of IARU, or just putting our equipment on the air and making

just a single QSO on this day, so realising how large our ham community is."

The Polish Amateur Radio Union is actively promoting World Amateur Radio

Day. It has made available an award for those who get on air on this Friday.

To qualify all you need to do is make 10 contacts on HF or 5 contacts on VHF

on the day. Note that UTC time is used, so contacts between 10am Friday and

10am Saturday are eligible. Listeners who hear the required number of

stations can also apply.

To claim, you need to get your application in by May 31st.

Pirate Information from DU1SAN...

Hello OM,

DX1ABC Zoltan is an illegal operator in the Philippines. He has been using

DU1ABC, and later DX9ABC. All his workings. A case has been filed with him.

Another thing OC-092 is far from his location. He has been misleading and

fooling other stations. He QSL but his card can not be credited for any

award. KIndly relay this information to your fellow hams. By the way, he is

not Filipino and doesn't know the true meaning of ham radio. He uses his

missionary title but I thing he is also a fraud. Sorry to say. Let

discipline the air waves with this kind of people. He is a shame to his

country.
