Rules of the S.I.A. HF
Rules of the S.I.A. (VHF&UP)
1) For the S.I.A. are considered valid the islands, the reefs,
the "faraglioni" and, in general, any piece of soil, sand or rock
standing out the water all the time in a day prescinding from the
condition of the tides; anyway it will have to be respected the concept
of island, as normally accepted.
2) The connection with the mainland by means of structures built by
the man, like bridges, crossing paths, and so on, does not limit the
concept of validity, on condition that the water is free to flow under
the bridge or other structure.
3) Islands made by the man are not valid, e.g.: dams, breakwaves,
barriers, artificial islands, and so on.
4) River and lake islands are not valid.
5) The island, as defined in (1), must be shown and named in the Italian
Map, scale 1:25,000 of the Military Geographic Institute; or its name must
be found on detailed nautical maps, or on documents released by the
"Capitaneria di Porto", or on specialized sectorial issues, or on any other
official source.
6) The distance from the mainland must always be not less than 50 meters
(56.7 yds), even on low tide.
7) HF operations will be accepted only if the contacts will be at least 100.
8) The list of the islands, updated at December 31st 1995, is to be considered
complete, even if some changes will be possible (eventual additions or deletings)
after specific requests, supported by sufficient cartographic evidence.
9) Yearly the S.I.A. standing will be published on the magazine "Radio Rivista".
It will be made basing on the applications and updatings received until December
31st of the previous year.
10) Eventual requests about insertion of islands in the official list must be
sent only to the Award Manager, that will be supported by the experts of the S.I.A.
Committee for any doubtful case that could appear.
11) A proper Commission, whose decisions will be unquestionable, will evaluate
eventual updatings and/or controvertings.
12) The Award is issued by the A.R.I. Section of Siracusa to all italian OM/YL and
SWL that got confirmed contacts/heards with at least 20 different islands, located
in at least 3 groups.
For european OM/YL and SWL the contacts/heards must be: 15 different islands located
in at least 2 groups. For extra-european OM/YL and SWL: 7 different islands located
in at least 2 groups.
All the contacts must be done since January 1st 1990.
13) Honour Roll: a personalized plaque will be issued on reaching the level of 50
islands located in 5 groups.
14) All Sicilian Islands Trophy (ASIT): a personalized plaque will be issued on
reaching 80 islands.
15) Fees:
Award: 20,000 italian liras, or 15 IRC or 10 US dollars or 10 euro;
Honour Roll and ASIT: 30,000 italian liras, or 20 IRC or 15 US dollars or 15 euro.
16) The application forms for Award, Honour Roll and ASIT must be sent to:

=== Rules of the S.I.A. VHF & UP ===
The S.I.A. is issued by the A.R.I. section of Siracusa to all italian
and european OM/YL and SWL that can demonstrate to be member of the A.R.I.
or any other national association member of the I.A.R.U. and that got
contacts/heards with marine islands and different groups, as shown in the
list published on the magazine "Radio Rivista 3/95 pages 64 and 65 and
further updates.
The contacts/heards are considered valid if made after January 1st 1990.
The Award can be requested as Based Station or Portable Station, in
SSB CW and mixed, or via satellite (any input or output mode).
QSO/HRD via repeaters or transponder are not valid, except those made via
linear transponder installed on satellites, but only in SSB mode.
To apply for the Award the following contacts/heards are requested:
Italian OM/YL/SWL:
50 MHz : 15 islands in 3 groups
144 MHz : 10 islands in 2 groups
432 MHz : 6 islands in 1 group
1296 MHz : 4 islands in 1 group
2304 and up: 2 islands in 1 group
European OM/YL/SWL:
50 Mhz : 8 islands in 2 groups
144 MHz : 3 islands in 1 group
432 MHz : 2 islands in 1 group
1296 and up: 1 island
OM/YL/SWL (italian or european)
Via satellite : 3 islands in 2 groups
Groups: 01-Egadi, 02-Eolie, 03-Pantelleria, 04-Pelagie, 05-Sicilia, 06-Ustica.
Further upgrades can be requested for a minimum of 3 islands and/or groups.
Separate standings for band and mode, islands and groups, will be made
and will be published yearly on the magazine "Radio Rivista".
To apply for the Award the applicant must send a GCR with all details of the
QSO's/HRD's signed by himself and a declaration that the QSL cards are in
possession of the applicant: photocopies of them can be requested by the
Award Manager anytime for checks.
The fee for the Basic Award is 20,000 italian liras or 15 IRC or 10 US dollars
or 10 euro. Each upgrade fee is 1,000 italian liras or 50 eurocent for postages.
Anyone actives an island on the frequencies above indicated and can demonstrate
his activity - minimum 15 QSO's on 144 MHz or 10 QSO's on 432 MHz or 5 QSO's on
1296 MHz and up, or 10 satellite QSO's - will get that island/group accredited
for his own Award as Based Station.
To get these credits the valid activities must have been made since January 1st
1990 and, if requested, relative authorizations for the access to the islands
must accompany the application form.
