Hello friends,
A new version of CLX was released today. It was uploaded to
ftp.funet.fi:/pub/ham/incoming in the evening of July 20, 1997.
I hope the archive maintainers will soon find the time to move
the files to the appropriate directories so you will find the files

Here is the version 3.01 readme file:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------
CLX Version 3.01 released July 20, 1997
Version 3.01 is a complete package to be freshly installed. If you are
upgrading from a previous version of CLX, please follow the instructions
described in the documentation about migrating from an older version.
This is a maintenance release. There were two major problems and a few
minor problems solved. Also a few new features were added and so we
thought it's time again for a new version.
*** CHANGES ***
Many bug fixes:
- The problem with Expect scripts and the ioctl(raw) message is gone.
Many people had reported this problem, however it was not so easy to
track because some had it and others not. This was never a problem
with our test installation DB0CLX for some reason. Now we know why!
When setting up a new Expect script to connect to a remote site via
telnet/rlogin/cu etc., everything would work well from the command
line but when CLX picked up the script, it would disconnect at the
very moment that the link was finally established with the message:
ioctl(raw): I/O error
This problem was here to stay but for some reason, it would sometimes
disappear and then not come back again.
The reason was that Expect tried to set line discipline parameters
on the so-called controlling tty (normally /dev/tty). When called from
within CLX, /dev/tty pointed to the terminal where CLX was started
and for some reason, the line discipline for this tty could not be
changed, probably because it was also a CTTY for other processes.
Surprisingly, all was well, if this TTY no longer existed. That is,
you started CLX from a xterm and closed this xterm later or when
CLX was started from an rc script.
Now the code was chenged to explicitly attach no CTTY when CLX spawns
the Expect process and the problem has gone away.
Sorry that it took us so long but it was really a tough one. (TNX SM6MNH,
VK1KCM, NE1H, VE2QDX, DF4PA, UA3ATS, SV1AAW, OH2NJR)
- AX.25 kernel connections via one or more digipeaters would not work
in version 3.00. No problem if you had a direct link to your partner
node but if you had to go via some digipeaters, the connection would
fail but CLX would believe the link was established. This has been
fixed and AX.25 connects now work again. (TNX DL1RF)
- The shell command is now working perfectly. As a CLX admin, you
may spawn a shell and so many admin tasks can be handled over
packet. The shell was available in previous versions of CLX, but
its output never looked good.
- net_usr no longer goes wild when called from telnet and then a
hard disconnect appears.
- Udt tables now allow '/' in key words. (TNX F1TE)
- net_usr now reads from STDIN, so one can now use a program to log
in and do something (like sending a message or setting the MOTD
message).
- The delete command now understands multiple numbers, so you can say
delete 345,456,120
so subsequently delete message numbers 345, 456 and 120.
- The password authorization for both the get_pwd method and the
THENET/BAYCOM method now works well. You need no longer make a
callsign sysop by default (if you so desire) but you can give the
CLX password to different persons with administration tasks and
they can switch to sysop mode by using one of the two authorization
methods.
- The Shared Lib is now shipped with permissions 0755 (TNX G0VGS).
Some new features:
- Self spotting is no longer possible. If a spot is received from
a station with originating and dx callsign being identical, this
spot is quietly ignored.
- Added a keep alive timer for users. Sends binary '0' character
every 10 minutes if a users turns it on with SET/ALIVE. SET/NOALIVE
turns the feature off. (TNX SM6MNH)
- Node connects/disconnects now show up in the log.
Thanks for feedback and correspondence! Please switch to the new version
now and let us know of any problems.
