Hello friends,

A new version of CLX was released today. It was uploaded to
ftp.funet.fi:/pub/ham/incoming in the evening of October 6, 1996.

I hope the archive maintainers will soon find the time to move
the files to the appropriate directories so you will find the files

     clx_204.tgz (1737296 Bytes)
     install.txt (10802 Bytes)
          README (7117 Bytes)

at the following places:

gonzo.rrze.uni-erlangen.de:/pds/freeware/hamradio/packet/packclus/clx
              ftp.funet.fi:/pub/ham/unix/Linux/cluster

Here is the README_2.04 file:

CLX Version 2.04 released October 6, 1996

Version 2.04 is a completely new package. It is not an update to
previous releases as many changes were introduced, the biggest of them
being the switchover from the a.out format to ELF. That is, CLX now needs
ELF support and it currently runs under Linux 2.0.0 at DB0CLX. It should
run under any 2.x kernel.

Also, the underlying Postgres version has changed up to 1.07 with many
improvements especially in the Linux port.

Sorry that it took us so long to get going with it, but there were
other things to do in our lives. But here you have it, a completely
new, fresh version of CLX.

*** CHANGES ***

New features include:

- A new (additional) operator login program called term_usr in
analogy to net_usr. This program has additional functionality
by providing GNU readline capabilities and command history. You
will love this, when you're constantly typing and retyping commands
from the console. Unfortunately, there are some problems when
using this from WAMPES so net_usr is still provided for
compatibility.

- A conversion utility for callbook data is to be found in
~/callb/local. You may import your own data if you wish by
tailoring this program.

- User database tables: You can now import those .FUL files from
AK1A PacketCluster. Both a conversion utility and a command set is
provided for your convenience. For more details, look into
procs+databases.txt.

- SH/DXCC now shows DXCC status of prefixes and callsigns.
Don't panic when clx 2.04 starts for the first time, it will read
the cty.dat ASCII file in ~/config and this will take about three
rows of dots. Later, when the table has been read, the startup will
be as usual. For more details, look into procs+databases.txt.

- WAMPES support now allows usage of TNT as a control program and
packet radio interface. TNT, which is a Packet Radio Hostmode
program written by DL4YBG, can now be used as both a comformtable
sysop interface for CLX and additionally as a packet radio
terminal as it provides a WAMPES-compatible socket interface and
an auto_start feature which can be configured to call up ~clx/bin/clxsh
for each incoming call. For more details, look into wampes.txt.

- A migration path for old 2.0x versions to the current (and probably
future) versions of CLX is now described in migration.txt. This
shows how you can keep your users happy when upgrading from an old
version of CLX.

- A log monitor which will let you comfortably look at a users
session, monitoring incoming and outgoing commands as they are
passing through the log file. See sysadm.txt for more details.

- Thanks to IK3HUK we now also have Italian user help files.
