There's a REAL good reason why this particular antenna ain't gonna go on a
mirror! I work (mostly) in the "outback" (or at least what most people
seem to define the "outback" to be) and do about 50% running on amongst
the worst corrigated roads, possibly most of you could imagine. Vibration
is a killer of antennae, so the stick going on this is the most robust I
can source. It is being custom made for me by a manufacturer well versed
in creating hardy mobile whips for this particular environment.
Incidentally, this is ALSO why I have not even considered a "screwdriver"
style antenna (although both the Codan and another brand had some appeal -
just not the price of them!!!)
Thus the prospective antenna weighs in at a huge amount, because it is
built like the proverbial schnitzenkrugen housen. Additionally, it is
STRONG. If it was on a mirror and I collected a tree with the antenna
(quite a real possibility), chances are the antenna would survive but the
mirror (at around $150 a pop) wouldn't!!!! Hence the "bullbar" solution
mentioned in an earlier post!

The intended (already purchased) radio will draw about 40 Amps. However,
most Delco/Remy (not sure of the spelling) alternators I have encountered
in this country are not bad with regard to noise they ....... emit!

Bill tells me that Cat pretended to not understand and/or believe him
(even after a demo) and claimed that the motor's RF emissions were within
tolerances so, basically, tough errrrrr titties!

Only problem, Warren, is that I am not sure your Toyota would be too happy
dragging around about 240,000 Lbs or thereabouts!!!!!!!!!
