It is not a myth, it doesn't work good and not at all in most cases.
You can't control the tnc from flexnet, set txd and so on and the adaptive
parameters of flexnet doesnt work when using kiss, you can't use crc kiss, so
you need toi be lucky if it shall work.
If you want to use the flexnet node, is it imopssible to use kiss, since you
can't use the node protocol.
It would not be very wise to recommend people to use kiss at all!
Kiss should realy not be used as pc tnc protocoll at all and there is a reason
for why the kiss driver for flexnet is for serial kiss links only.
If you have a non tnc2 compatible tnc are you stuck with kiss, but most people
don't care, they are not aware of te problems with kiss.

>This message is
>being sent using Flexnet with a PacComm HandiPacket running in KISS mode.
If you are using low speeds and are lucky does it work some times.
And some times better than using the tnc in host mode, if the hostmode software
is not very good. But this says more about the tnc than about flexnet, in this
situation doesn't flexnet work very much better than any mediocre packet
driver.

>Why not encourage those with KISS TNC's to use them with Flexnet, but also
>point out to them that the performance might be better if their TNC had
>6pack.
I don't think it would be very good, people would get the impression that
flexnet works less good than it realy does if used in a proper way.
And it would not work for many of those who tries to use it.

>This may encourage more users to put pressure on manufacturers to
>support 6pack.
Don't think so, most tnc users are not aware of the problems with kiss and will
not put any preasure on anyone.
And those who are aware of the problems and care are not owners of the tncs
that can only be used with kiss!

>Another factor which discourages the use of Flexnet is the way that
>Windows sometimes locks up when running Flexnet. This does not happen

Have never had any lock up problems.
But try not to load flexnet high it helps with some memory configurations.
When using flenxet under windows is tfemu a rather great problem.
Try nbf, it is a much better packet program then winpack and have support for
the flexnet interface, so no tfemu is needed.
