I have _never_ said that we shouldn't replace the NET/ROM-network with
something else. But I _have_ said that it still is working ok, so there is
no need to replace it for that reason.

You just made my point, it is not worthless here yet.

High-speed is mandatory when you are using TCP/IP, so that comes naturally.
And all TCP/IP-software, and TCP/IP-TNC-firmvare, I've seen has normal
ax25-capability too, so we are not making it harder for anyone.
Users can connect to the node via ax25 (low speed if needed) and then use
the high speed-network.

This senario is even true in NET/ROM-networks, as the type of protocol
has nothing to do with what speed you are using.
There are 38k4, 64k (and faster) NET/ROM-networks in use over the world.

You don't have do change to a new network-protocol just to get higher speeds.
You don't even have to replace the "old" TNC2's to get higher speeds.

Just replace the 1k2-modem with a faster one, reconfigure your software to
fit that new speed, and use a radio that can handle that new speed.
(Also make sure you choose a frequency that allowes you to use the wider
bandwith you automatically get. Normally 432 MHz or even higher)

If you are using a TNC2, or compatible, you have a modem-disconnect-header
that makes it possible to place an add-on-card with a faster modem in the TNC.

Baycom USCC has the same capability, just remove the low speed modem-card,
and replace it with a high speed-card.

Most TNC's has this capability, external as well as internal.

This will be my last reply in this topic as a bulletin, as it doesn't
produce any new things of interrest to anyone any more.
I, and I hope you will to, will do as the subject says: Give it a rest.
