Hello!
>> Flexnet under win95 is not to be used for nodes.
>BPQ and NOS nodes work quite well in Win95/98.
Bpq works as good as bpq can, not very well compared to other nodes!
>Guess this is yet ANOTHER failure of Flexnet.
I am not aware of any failures of flexnet, wht should that be?
There have been no intentions to make a windows node!
Not very strange windows isn't very suitable for nodes
it is impossible to get a windows node to run for years with our any chrashes
as it should and you can with nodes under dos, linux etc.
>Maybe someday it will be interesting software, but the authors
>have MUCH work to do before that happens!
It is rather interesting to us here in when it comes to packet radio
the more eminent parts of the world!
>Have they published the backend and frontend API spec yet?
Yes!
There are also software using the flexnet interface, of which some are gnu
liscensed so there are source codes avaliable for pepole interested in it
to study.
>If so, did they implement the same API as BPQ, so that
>existing applications continue to work? If not, why?
Don't know exactly why.
But I think the flexnet interface is easier to use, than atlest hostmodes!
When runing under dos can tfeum be used to make it possible to use
applications with the tfpcr/drsi interfcaes, that interface is supported by
most software. That is alos used by drivers like tfkiss, tfx etc which is used
for serial kiss links. And it is via a kiss link a bbs etc often is connected
to a flexnet node.
Bpq lacks support for rmnc crc-32 kiss, the kiss most suitble for
serial kiss links and supported by almost every other kiss driver and flexnet
is bpq not very good for kiss links.
When used under win95 use is flexnet using some special 32bit windows
interface, so windows software must support that to be useable with flexnet.
It is as node flexnet is most interesting, but it would be nice with more
software supporting the flexnet interface. Tfemu could one live without!
>Inquiring minds want to know these things ...
Nice!
