Bpq isnt developed any more flexnet is.

packet driver:
The lack of adaptive parameters, "packet collector", the use off kiss whic
doesn't offer the packet driver controll over the tnc.
The parametsrs of bpq is many times not optimally set.

Flexnet has adaptive parameters, packet collector and uses 6pack instead of
kiss. It supports many more hardwares than bpq does.
You dont have to worry about any paramters since it is handled by flexnet,
that makes the packet driver easy to set up and use.
The adaptive parameters realy makes a big difference.

Node:
The node uses net/rom which adds a lot of overhead data and it is even ised
when connecting your neighbour for no good at all.
Bpqs way of measering quallity isnt good, the frames aren't routed the best
way. And the network information is updatet to seldom which makes it even
worse. In the net node is the quallity problem fixed, now is round trip time
measured instead.
The routing problems make the network hard to use, many time you ahve to know
very much asbout tghe network so that you can manually navigate you through
thenetwork.

But the flexnet protocoll doesn't add so much over head data and it uses header
compression. The round trip time is measued. The network information is
updated often. When connetcing your neighbour isn't any routing protocoll used.
The flexnet network is transparent to the users and no manual hops are
necessary.

There are also a rmnc hardware with flexnet software that is good for
unattended nodes.

>Have you ever tried BPQ, and really made it work ?
Yes.
But almsot verery thing else works better.
Tncs with tf2.7 does.
Tfkiss3,tfx2.8 as kiss driver.
Flexnet does.
Agw packet engine does.

>Not just running it with the standard settings supplied with the software ?
No offcause not.

>Perhaps you are just trying to promote FlexNet and just making guesses about

No I am not.

>What version of TheNet ?
since 1.74 i think, now is 1.76 avaliable.

>What is better ?
The new verison of net/rom and its routing.
The support for the flexnet protocoll.
Taht tthenetnodes are run on separate computers and not on the same as a bbs.

Yes.

>Where ?
http://134.169.78.141/thenetnode/tnn.htm

>And, wasn't it FlexNet we were discussing, not TheNet ?
Yes but all avliable nodes are better than bpq, would it also better if it was
replaced by one of them.
But th net/rom protcoll isn't as good as the flexnet protcoll, so flexnet is to
prefer. Also of many other reasons.

>>Evern for thoose who still for some strange reason wants so use net/rom is bpq

>Ahh, it is the NetRom-protocol you are against....
Not mainly, it is bpq.
But the flexnet protocoll is better.

>Hmmm, I thought that you just said:
>"Even for thoose who still for some strange reason wants so use net/rom..."
They shall use thenetnode or xnet with the upgraded working net/rom routing.

>You does not promote FlexNet very well, are you ??
I'm not promoting any thing, I'm just telling you why bpq should be replaced.

>Come with some GOOD arguments.
Come with some GOOD argument for using bpq instead of flexnet or any other
GOOD node!

>Just because a program is not maintained any more does not automatically

But by replacing bpq would we get a better working packet network, that is the
reson.

The packet driver part of bpq is less good than to use anothe packet driver,
like tf2.7 or tfx.
Many bbses also have a bpq node if thay should use hostmode tf2.7b tncs would
that also improve a bit.

>OK, we will dismantle every node, and BBS, that uses BPQ, WITHOUT replacing it

>What will the result be ?
As long as they have the digipeat option enabled and a gateway installed,
would it work as good.
Since bpq cant handle the routing any way in many areas.

>NO working packet-network in many areas.
That is already reality thenks to bpqs routing.

>You are the first to tell us that it runs on 8086 and newer computers.
>Have you tried it on these computers ?
Not on a 8088.
But on a 286 with baycom modems, and terminal program loaded at the same time
and that worked just fine.

If you use only the packet driver can a 8088 be used, but that of cause also
depends on what hardware you use, tncs etc and link speed.

For the node can a 286 be used for atleast 1200bps packet.
But a 386 or 486 is to prefer, and if you have many ports higher speeds,
baycom modems etc will it probably not work good with any thing less than a
386.

But the computers isnt a problem, old 386es and 486 computers can you get
cheap.
To get a old comptuer and a uscc card is as cheap as a tnc.
And on amy locations are to slow comptuers ued for bbs and node operations, if
they got separate comptuer for the node would that jsut be good.

>It was the ONLY program for a while.
>No, it is not better than any other programs.
>It just doing its job as good as any other software.
>So why abandon it ?
Because it doesn't do the job as good as for example flexnet would do it.

>I will newer get rid of it until someone manages to tell me why BPQ is out
>of date.
I have just done that.
I think you shall try flexnet and se by your swlf.

Flexnet does.

Try flexnet.

It is the xscc driver you need.
