}>With the exception of soundcards, BPQ Node software is able to provide
}>direct support for ALL of the hardware you listed AND support for every
}>KISS TNC on the planet - without searching for firmware modifications.
}
}I only briefly listed what came to mind, which often is very little.
}Having investigated further into what drivers are available, my list now is:
}
}BayCom style 300/1200/2400 baud AFSK modem
}KISS to another computer or RMNC node
}TNC with 6-Pack EPROM
}XSCC driver (SCC cards: PA0HZP Opto, PE1PET, DRSI, BayCom Digi & USCC)
}USCC driver (all BayCom SCC cards)
}PAR96 BayCom 9600 baud parallel port modem
}YAM 9600 baud modem
}Soundcards
}(Ethernet? I haven't read the exact details of this yet)
}
}There are probably more that I am unaware of, as not only do the FlexNet Group
}produce drivers, but others around the world are producing them also.
}Note the support of low cost 9600 baud devices like the YAM modem, PAR96 modem
}and soundcards.
}
}(My list is actually the menu of a FlexNet Install program I am developing - I
}have got down the list as far as the YAM modem.)
}
}Has anyone got a list of ALL the drivers that are available?
}
}
}>On multi-user radio channels, where perhaps only 20% of users may be under
}>the control of a DAMA Master, dynamically adjusting parameters with
}>everyone politely waiting their turn to be polled may not necessarily be
}>the best solution.
}
}Does that imply that there is more than one user-port on the same frequency?
}There should only be one user-port (on a BBS or Digi) per frequency. Any more
}creates a shambles (we have this locally here, with a netrom network, a BBS and
}a lot of users, ALL crammed onto one frequency!) 10 years ago a high speed UHF
}backbone with a variety of 2m user ports was proposed and has been generally
}enthusiastically ignored (see NZART magazine Break-In, Oct 89, pages 24 & 25).
}As far as backing off goes, FlexNet does back off a little, but not
}excessively, and on our often heavily loaded notwork it is not really slow
}even when faced with intense congestion.
}
}
}>..... TCPIP users are well-aware of the "back-off until you go
}>to sleep" phenomenon.
}
}That sounds like a comment of what JNOS was like some years ago before the
}"ax25 maxwait ..." and "tcp maxwait ..." parameters were introduced. It also
}used to be the fashion to use datagram mode as compared to virtual circuit
}which handles retries and congestion far better. "It seemed like a good idea
}at the time" :-)
}
}
}>Whether or not BPQ Node software has "had it's day" is a matter of opinion.
}>Many of us prefer to think that it has stood the test of time.
}
}It is ideal if you want netrom capability.
}
}Yoo hoo! Guru wake-up call! Kantronics TNCs need 6PACK EPROMs! Now!
}The TNC2 version is only about 5k so it should only take an hour or two to
}get the specs and write the code ;-) Go for it!
}

Well David,
It doesn't matter how good anyone says FLEXNET is. if it doesn't work. I am
talking from a modem user point of
view here. Tried it on a P133, and now on this 686L 166, and results are
similar in that it runs fine for about 5 minutes.
Lasted a little longer under DOS with BCT, but not much longer.. A better
option if one doesn't like BPQ is AGW, at
least it doesn't die for no reason.
Have Fun,
Cheers es 73 Bob.
