Hi All,

After reading packet bulletins over the years, it seems that many people
are reluctant to try the G8BPQ Node software because it can be confusing
to configure and tricky to install until you are used to it.

I am, therefore, writing a BPQ Self-Installer in an attempt to simplify the
process. The program asks the relevant questions about your computer's COM
ports, and so on, then creates a BPQ configuration file and installs the
necessary files for both MSDOS and Windows 3.1x/95/98.

The Installer attempts to suggest sensible default values for most of the
parameters, where possible, and can configure up to 4 COM ports with 8
radios on each port. Currently, it can cope with the parameters for normal
serial COM ports (ASYNC) and internal HDLC cards.

For MSDOS and Windows 95/98 users, the Installer also offers to make the
changes necessary to autoexec.bat and, for all Windows users, gives the
appropriate instructions for disabling the BPQ COM ports under Windows.

When the Installer program is zipped up with the required BPQ files, it is,
unfortunately, just over 83k in size so is a little too big for the packet
network. I have, therefore, put a copy of version 1.0 Beta on my website as
BPQINST.ZIP

It *is* an early Beta version so any suggestions for additions or
improvements (or even plain old bug reports) will be welcomed. You can
download it from:
            http://www.sparks98.freeserve.co.uk/radio/files.html

After downloading, unzip BPQINST.ZIP into a temporary directory and then
run BPQINST.EXE from a DOS prompt.
