BULLETIN NO. 10 - MONDAY JUNE 8TH
The weather forecast issued by the Met. Office at 7am. Dry at first but
outbreaks of mainly light rain by the middle of the morning and it will
turn heavy this afternoon. Patches of cloud down to about 1000 feet are
likely through the morning and the cloud base will probably lower to
600-800 feet in the heavier rain this afternoon. Wind Southwest 10mph at
first becoming Southeasterly 15-20mph by the end of the morning.
Temperature:- around 11c/52f reaching 16c/61f at best.
The first race today is the four lap Lightweight 250cc, which Joey Dunlop
has won for the past four years, but will he be fit enough to make it five
in a row? He is in 13th place on the practice leaderboard at 112.97mph,
some 45 seconds down on the leader Shaun Harris (Yamaha) who lapped in
19m.17.0s - 117.40mph, just four seconds outside the lap record, and 4.8
seconds faster than the lap record holder Ian Lougher (Honda Britain) who
lapped at 116.91mph with Jim Moodie (Vimto Honda) 0.7 seconds down at
116.84. The top six was completed by Gavin Lee (Yamaha) who lapped at
116.65, Bruce Ansty (Yamaha) at 114.73 and Ashley Law (Honda) at
114.36mph. The leading local rider was Paul Dedman (Vimto Honda) in
seventh place, with other likely contenders John McGuinness in eight place
and Gary Dynes in ninth. In this class the top 21 riders in practice
lapped at over 110mph, and the top 55 riders lapped in excess of 100mph.
In practice riders completed 391 laps - 14,752.43 miles.
The second race today is Sidecar "B", and the riders will be all out to
make up for the disappointment of missing out on the first race, and there
is no form guide to forecast a winner. Some consolation for the
competitors is the fact that the prize fund for Race "A" will go into Race
"B". As we said on Saturday it looks like being a battle between the Honda
of Dave Molyneaux and the Yamaha of Rob Fisher - both have won five races
and scored two doubles. Their faster laps are divided by 6.3 seconds,
Dave at 111.02 and Rob at 110.45mph - the only Sidecar men to lap at over
110mph. Their nearest challengers could well be last years overall winner
Tom Hanks (Tamzine Honda) who has lapped at 108.84mph, Allan Schofield
(Astra 600) third on the practice leaderboard, John Holden (Yamaha 600)
fourth in practice with sixth place man Gary Horspole (Honda 600)
