Hi Pete and all,

You're right, "eyeballs" right down to those wallet sized cards started
with Amateurs many years ago. I don't know about snobbish behavior today,
starting years before I was licensed and onward most of my friends were
met that way and I don't make friends very easily. I should mention one
exception, a one time fellow member of a club with a skyscraper nose
wearing his sense of entitlement on his sleeve. I guess it's like what
they say about idiots, everywhere you go you'll find one.

I was thinking of Master Control as a handle, now that you mention it I
have a vague recollection of that band of vigilantes getting a write-up
in a magazine I used to subscribe to. FYI they weren't the only ones, I
remember individuals and small groups in the NY/NJ metro area who had
midnight antenna parties and beat up a few people. Would you believe that
was before chaos ruled the band? Luckily I managed to avoid them.

Yup, in the days of tubez it started with the Courrier 23 and ended up
with half a dozen of the same thing with different front panels and brand
names and the joke Courrier Royale. That was before Japanese imports took
over those odd brands but retained the Courrier circuit designs. I should
mention they were the easiest to butcher and many a golden screwdriver
opened the flood gates to harmonics and spurs, the crystal synth required
some tricky alignment the CB doctors didn't know about. There was a
Royale a few blocks away that transmitted and received "channels" all
over the band and just about everywhere else, it led to a constant war
with a YL I just couldn't convince had a faulty radio.

Speaking of traveling together, right at the start I was introduced to
hill topping in the mobile. The New York Marine and Aviation tower on
Todt Hill, Staten Island was a favorite spot for locals and in Reading,
Pennsylvania it was "up top" at the pavillion on Mt. Penn. A few years
ago I made the trip in the VXAmobile but for nothing, in the years since
then the whole ridge became home to TV translators and assorted public
service and commercial repeaters. Like a dummy I left the bandpass filter
home and couldn't hear anything but hash, mash and trash.

Uh oh, better grab the bucket and mop and swab the deck before your
Master (Control) returns or you'll have lumps on your noggin. (;->) Times
like this I wish I had an ASCII parrot...
Two queen five four six eight base to mobile, copy Walt? AAWK! <whistle>
Pieces of eight, pieces of eight... AAWK!
Hey, I guess Charlie Chicken Bander will have to do.
