An interesting "Beacon test" can be done via internet/www! Via the URL
http://www.chilton.com/scripts/radio/R8-receiver
you can control a Drake R8-receiver online (QRG, Mode, IF-Bandwidth etc...)
and get back 5 or 15 seconds of audio (via an .au file).
The RX is located in Virginia, USA. So you can test your propagation in this
direction on different frequencies.
