It was nice to see and hear Cherie Blair, wife of the PM of the UK, Tony
Blair, on her visit to this state (Western Australia). The TV cameras
caught her in the rain forest among the big trees, apparently near
Pemberton, as one of the trees appeared to be the Gloucester Tree, a giant
karri with steps built to a platform at the top. Thousands of tourists
visit and climb this tree every year, many from the UK and Europe. The
figures were given of 139 000 from the UK visiting each year - impressive
number. There are specimens of the karri which grow to 300 feet in
height; many top the 270 foot mark.
