Tim Chen, BV2A, the first resident to set up an amateur station in Taiwan,
has become a silent key, aged 92.The Chinese Taipei Amateur Radio League
has announced that its Charter President, Tim Chen, BV2A passed away on
22 February, due to a deterioration of colon cancer.
At the IARU Region 3 Conference in Taipei two years ago Tim made many new
friends, including members of the WIA team.
The Conference was attended by over 60 participants commenced with an
introduction by the Charter President of CTARL Tim Chen BV2A.For many years
only US forces personnel in Taiwan held amateur radio licences, with the
only exception of Tim Chen, BV2A (SSB) and BV2B (CW).
At the IARU Region 3 Conference Tim told the opening ceremony how amateur
radio began in 1983 with his callsign being the first and only for some
time.
He played a pivotal role in the 1991 founding of the CTARL, which gained
IARU membership the following year.
Vale, Tim Chen, BV2A, who will be greatly missed by his many friends and
admirers in the amateur radio community.
