Hi Bob and all,
Of course I have something to add and this will amaze you, I agree. I was
taught that Australia is it's own continent, unique in that respect. That
was before the postal service was properly organized and the region
"Occania" added but it's still a continent, not a really big island under
the auspices of the Asian or any other.
Mercator must have been very fat, when he sat on the world he squashed it
and changed all our beam headings. Forget aiming missiles at Stockholm
when it's all Darwin's fault. If not for him we wouldn't have this
continual squabble over evolution vs. creationism in the schools and the
Scopes trial would have never happened.
Actually a proper Mercator projection clearly shows the odd geometry
where blanks were added to the map. If the ARRL got it right I wouldn't
have had to teach a certain ham how to use his calibrated rotor properly
but that's another story. Now I leave you with this tricky question, why
under certain propagation conditions do all signals come from the poles?
