Hi Jim and all,
Know exactly how you feel Jim.
We have a great bunch of guys here in Queensland Australia that have got a
great system going. It may not be as busy as it was years ago, but it is still
very active here. In the rest of Australia, it seems to function ok as well.
Again only because of a dedicated bunch. But that is amateur radio.
A few BBS's have closed or are closing, and that is sad. Mainly due to
isolation from the system, as I understand from some packets. But a new
satgate is opening, so more traffic now will proceed via Sat, GO32 I think. So
there is good news too.
So even thought the packet traffic is not what it used to be, the information
Bulls, Discusions both good and ??? are all part of what keeps the Packet
network world wide going for us all.
I do not mind how the traffic is forwarded, even via the internet or phone
line. It is just part of this system that grows, expands, slows down, reduces
and adapts. It is always basicly Amateur Radio with a few hops inbetween as it
is required.
I have really enjoyed packet radio since the early 90's. I am still using my
original FT 411 handie and PK-88 to send. I had a 286 then 386 then Pentium 90
laptop retired but still going. I now use my new centino portable so I can
reply to you from work as well. Just love it sooo much.
Thanks Jim for this Packet to reply to and thanks to all the system
supporters, forwarders and BBS controllers for this great packet system.
Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all.
