Ian, VK5QX has done a really good explanation of the coinage in use in
Australia. It sounds as though the 50c is similar to our 50 pence coin =
the old 10 bob and, roughly a $A. I don't think I'd be dropping one in
a type of 'Wishing Well' just to hear the noise, Hi!
Apart from getting it wrong about the Half Crown coin. It looks as though
the whole thing was a lot more sensible and less inflationary than ours
was.
There was a BBC TV prog a couple of years back, telling the story of our
decimalisation. The big surprise was, that it wasn't the British public
who didn't want to lose the UK Pound. It was a small number of people
within the government of the day. We could have always have had a $" note
or a 'NEW POUND' = 10 bob, I suppose. But we were ripped off big time!
The furore over the Euro seems to have died down. I personally like it
because my eyes aren't so good. We have argued the pros and cons of it ad
nauseam, so I'm not going to start that all over again. I have used the
Euro, will use it in France this year, all being well.
I don't doubt we will get it someday but I will probably be pushing up
daisies by then (sorry. Dead, snuffed it, kicked the bucket, bought the
farm - take your choice.
Thanks again for the explanation Ian, Ian. Thanks again to the others.
All the best.
