David I was the author of these first two lines sometime ago.
Thankyou for your kind words regardng these comments, its refreshing to
hear this. Why do I say this? well all I got after making these comments
was a barrage of attacks predominatly (sorry) from the UK. I was
disheartand and offended as this was genuine attempt at sharing my
feelings about my country. My comments were attacked by several arrogant,
profitunistic, negative comments. I voiced my concerns over the attacks
and was flammed down again by several from the UK, at that point I had
only been on AR for less than 12 months, thank you for the introduction UK
to AR.
I will say that your laws are the similar to ours re language on the
bands. Legal presidence is: what is accepted on the street is accepted on
the radio, this is commonly referred to as street language, whilst as
amateurs we may not condone it and it may not fit with our hobby, however
the courts sees radio as representative of every other community and codes
of censorship realy dont apply. Restrospectively street language
represents current society trends.
In saying this I have found that bad language is very very small on the
bands and my experiences in Australia are that most amateurs are polite
and accepting.
Over the past 2 years on packet I have witnessed many attacks on VK's by
several GB stations, this sparks replies "with every action there is a
reaction", yet when vk's reply to the challenge they are attacked even
further once they have bitten the bait, very childish! but my point is
that many UK stations keep baiting, slandering, offering general abuse
aimed at VK's. Yes some deserve it, however I am an example of unsolicted
rubbish from your country. Trying to tell your countrymen that they do not
know as much as they think about our country is generally met by arrogance
and one-upmanship, or straight out abuse, ref the recent argument about 40
mtrs from G0FTD and his lackies.
My point is; dont generalise about a country as you and many others have
done unless you are here, and dont comment on local laws unless you read
our newspapers get emails from the WIA and know all the local information.
By all means ask ask advice and request knowledge, but dont tell us how
things are please! that is arrogant.
Also the small minority is afecting the silent majority
AR whilst its open to all ages it is predominatly an adult past time, yes
there is the younger operators that we need to keep in mind, but then who
polices' video games, tv, the internet, its all at their finger tips, the
comments on this medium whilst evocative, are generally very educational.
The flavor of these comments are still better than what can be seen on
other media choices as mentioned above.
Sorry for this long winded reply, but I hope that all is well in "Andy
Pandy Land"?
