Hello Ian and all,

Ian, I was just WAITING to hear from "the elder statesman" simply because
you ALWAYS get it right. TNX VRY MCH, QSLN. (;->)

In all that you overlooked one little thing, just one little thing. That
little but all important thing is the definition of the word "desert"
Most think only of the most oft used, an arid land having little to no
vegitation. In this respect the temperature has nothing to do with it,
the polar regions are arid deserts. Plenty of water in the form of ice,
very little precipitation and little grows there. Can't say nothing,
lichens and various plant forms are found where there is something
besides ice to grow on.

One of the lesser used but related definitions is an uninhabited area.
Gilligan's Island was "an uncharted desert isle" but there was plenty of
vegitation. For better understanding, think desert(ed).

Now for Mad Max, it was filmed in Australia not for the desert primarily
but for the terrain and some very talented Australian actors. The land
down under has such varied terrain and climate it's ideal for all sorts
of film making. Much is crammed into a narrow strip making for quite an
adventure. One can take the Queensland Railway to any part of the world
and the tracks never leave the Queensland coast far behind.

As for that silly remark about Death Valley, we must forgive the writer
for being as ignorant about Arizona as Australia. No problem, the cure
for ignorance is education, stupidity is another matter, but I doubt he
cannot learn. FYI, Death Valley is nothing but a huge, flat expanse of
NOTHING. Who would want to make a film there except for perhaps a few
scenes of nothing at all? That's what they did in the classic TV show
Death Valley Days, the rest was filmed in Hollywood, actually Television
City in Burbank. (Thhat's what they call Hollywood on TV, all but those
who ever watched Laugh In never heard of Burbank, hi.)

I guess the bottom line is "if you want to remark about something, learn
something about it first" if you want to be taken seriously. As for
taking ME seriously, DON'T. (most of the time)
(;->)
