Foundation Licence 500
----------------------
The Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) is about to issue
the 500th Foundation Licence.

It's just on six months since this new entry level licence was introduced.

The shoot in the arm given to amateur radio by not only the Foundation
Licence, but the new Standard and soon the new Advanced licences too, has
given amateur radio a new lease of life in Australia.

Two years ago there was a lack of on air activity, people leaving the hobby
due to loss of interest and the organisational side of amateur radio
experiencing a low ebb.

The new attractiveness of amateur radio, to both newcomers and many
existing radio amateurs has halted years of steady decline in licensees
and truly turned the hobby around. While the first 500 are enjoying what
their new hobby has to offer, the WIA's initial prediction of 1000
Foundation Licences in the first 12 months is very achievable.
