Modulated Light DX
------------------
A new VK3 distance record for optical communication of 102.1kms has been
set during activity mounted by group of enthusiasts on Easter Monday.

The record set at 1930 hours is claimed by Jack VK3WWW who was on Mt Donna
Buang using the equipment of modulated light exponent Chris Long, and Ralph
VK3WRE who was with Peter VK3KAI and Graeme VK3GJZ on Mt Hooghly.

Earlier Jack VK3WWW made contact with Chris VK3CJK at Moe South at 1835
hours, a distance of 75km.

The activity is the latest involving the red Lexeon light emitting diode
with a frequency of 474THz and Fresnel lenses. These were first used in
October 2002 to set a Tasmanian state optical communication distance record
of 30km, which was followed up on 19 February 2005 with a world record of
167km between Mt Wellington and Mt Barrow.
