Hi all and thanks for reading this. Does anyone know if there is any fast
JPEG code available in the public domain? My Pscan SSTV program supports
JPEG save and load - and very effective it is too - but it takes about 9
seconds to save or load a 640 x 512 24 bpp image. I use the two standard
JPEG "library" routines, called "cjpeg" and "djpeg" which are used (with
slight variations) by ChangeFSI, Translatr, Studio24 and many other photo
processing packages. There is, I believe, some slightly faster JPEG decoding
software in ChangeFSI, but I haven't found out how to use it and it's
probably not PD anyway!

I use the TARGA format as an intermediate step between JPEG and Risc OS
Sprite format, as there doesn't seem to be any code that will convert
to/from sprite format directly. This doesn't slow the conversion much as I
can convert targa files to sprites and vice versa in a few milliseconds. I
use the code something like this:-

*cjpeg -T TargaPic JpegPic or *djeg -T JpegPic TargaPic

I wonder if anyone has seen any fast JPEG code that can be used in this way?
The "SwiftJPEG" program mentioned on page 20 of the February 1996 Acorn User
sounds interesting, but wouldn't quite do what I want. Perhaps some of you
Internet surfers could come up with something. SwiftJPEG is available on
the "Acornet web site in Germany" perhaps there are also other JPEG
programs at the same site.

Any help much appreciated. 73 de Paul G4IJE @ GB7DAA.
