I am very puzzled by the ACORN bulletin from G7RWC (name unknown)
complaining about upgrade packs to RISC OS versions 3.0 and 3.1.

Version 3.0 was fitted in early A5000 machines (not sure about the A4
laptop), but was never supplied as an upgrade from RISC OS v2. However,
v3.1 *was* supplied as an upgrade in two forms; one from v2.0 complete
with a new manual, and a cheaper one from v3.0 being basically the same
upgrade but without a manual. Some naughty RISC OS v2 users eventually
caused a shortage of the latter upgrades by buying them instead of the
full upgrade packs, but that's another story.

RISC OS 3.1 came out 3 years ago, yes THREE YEARS, and most users will
have upgraded long ago. So what on earth is G7RWC complaining about?
Also what is an Acorn "Archamidies" when it's at home? Does he perhaps
mean "Archimedes" I wonder? (The name was dropped some time ago, and only
persist as the "A" prefix on many model numbers such as my A5000.)

The current range of Acorn Risc PCs have RISC OS 3.6 fitted, but alas it
is not available for earlier machine like mine. :-(

Finally, he suggests starting a little club for Acorn packet users.
Well, starting with the ARCNET server on GB7SAM about 6 years ago, and
continuing now with bulls to ARCHIM and RISCOS, just such a club has in
effect been here all along! (Neil G4RQN is the earliest user I can think
of, and this was even before I bought my first RISC machine 5 years or
so ago.) G7RWC must have been living on Mars if he didn't know this,
which he must have been since he addressed his bulletin to ACORN instead
of ARCHIM! hi hi :-)

However, on a more serious and positive note, if G7RWC is willing to
collate material to send out on packet as a newsletter, (to ARCHIM @ EU
please), I would welcome that. There are plenty of potential readers out
there.
