I can't remember the details (as they say I've slept since then) but the
cable was straightforward - just populate the board with all the parts
provided then tie the appropriate pin directly to the mic input on the
radio. This is for the Alinco, Yaesu, and Icom radios we've flown.

I think I ignorantly added an external resistor and capacitor to one rig
(copied the KPC-3 cable) and it worked fine, but I removed them and it
still worked fine. In fact, it flew yesterday.

Thanks. I'm thinking that there must be something wrong with this board (it
has sat in a box for a long time)...

Next question: Anyone have step-by-step instructions for turning a KPC-3+
into a modern-paradigm APRS tracker? I haven't programmed this thing in
years and haven't a clue where to start. I want it to function as a dumb
tracker (no listening).

Thanks.

1 - put it on ebay
2 - sell it for $150
3 - buy an OpenTracker
4 - pocket $120

Any TNC in "Transparent" mode including the KPC3+ and 9612+ will handle
the Davis output string with the data logger that Davis has. I have this
system operating at my QTH as I type.

Our second superpressure balloon, SDG-2, is now aloft! This mission has
been one of many mishaps and miscalculations - the balloon just impacted a
brick wall, for instance, on the way out of here...

No telling what will happen with this flight... The free lift is very low
(I had to perform surgery on the payload and remove a battery pack to get
it off the ground) and the envelope likely has holes now - so it might be a
quick up and down flight. Maybe it will pop due to the abrasions, maybe it
will just slowly leak. Your guess is as good as mine.

At any rate, it's flying now... Same call sign as always, KC8UCH-11.

73,
Robert

Might be our shortest mission ever - one packet received in the air and
*poof*, it's gone... Phooey, I'm tired and going to bed! :D

Hi Keith

After I got the Python script working I started working on Jason kg4wsv
Perl script. He had a few bugs but I got his script partially working.
It sends one packet and stops (you can't just sleep() in between packets
unless you close the socket).

Someone else is going to provide me with code to put the boat position
reports in a database. I just have to get the data every 20 minutes and
sent out a packet. The Orbcomm reports come in once an hour. The boats in
the race have the option of renting the equipment (about half do).
