For a definitive explanation of the login line, go to
http://www.aprs-is.net/valid.htm Note that www.aprs-is.net is the
definitive location for APRS-IS formatting including q constructs, etc.

For user, be sure to use a -unique- callsign-SSID (N9TN-VS, for example)
since you already use N9TN as your home station. Your validation code does
not change.

The format for your packet can also be found at www.aprs-is.net Since you
are, in essence, gating the packets to APRS-IS, I recommend using something
like:

N9TN-9>APRS,qAR,N9TN-VS:_at_092345/4349.13N/08653.55WY306/015Cheap'n'Deep sec 6
Chicago Mac race

Note the qAR construct tells APRS-IS that this packet has been received by
N9TN-VS from RF (or non-APRS-IS means) and is being passed into APRS-IS by
N9TN-VS. This is assuming that you use the N9TN-VS user callsign-SSID
combination on login. One of the purposes for the q construct is to show a
"port of entry" which this does (it is also used for loop detection).

Hope this helps.

PS: APRServe no longer exists on APRS-IS. The majority of APRS-IS servers
are running either javAPRSSrvr or aprsD. Just a clarification.

I cannot answer that directly, but one thing for sure is that NO program
should be logging packets to file WITHOUT ASSIGNING A TIME-OF-RECEIPT time
stamp.

This makes sense to me.
Is there a standard format to follow when logging a time-of-receipt to a
text file? I'm having difficulty finding it and could use a push in the
right direction. Thank you! MJ

I don't think there is a standard, but this is what I like to use:

20070330090800

This sorts nicely. YYYYMMDDHHMMSS and is always UTC.

If you want local, add or subtract as necessary to get local. By logging
in UTC there's never a doubt as to what day is DST change, what Time
Zone the PC clock is set to, etc.

No, I wanted one, but could not get other authors to agree to one.

Subject: [aprssig] APRS <> Aloha/CAMEO

All,

I have a project that has been presented to me, and I have been beating
around the best way to handle it.

We are trying to set up remote weather stations at some key locations in
the area for emergency management, and pipe the data into the Aloha/Cameo
(http://archive.orr.noaa.gov/cameo/aloha.html) setup. We would like to be
able to selectively grab the data from one WX Station and pipe it into
Aloha depending on the incident.

Aloha is typically used with a straight serial connection to the WX
Station, AFAIK. Aloha looks for a specific data string from the WX
stations. I have beat around several ideas, such as COM<> IP adapters and
a serial server (several variations) or using APRS. I like the idea of
using APRS because the data could be used to serve the public via APRS and
the CWOP program.

What I would like to do is set each weather station up on APRS, pipe the
data into APRS-IS, and then come up with some sort of IP <> Com app that
would connect to APRS-IS, parse the data from a specific callsign, reformat
it for Aloha, and pipe into a virtual serial port.

Is there any app available now that will allow even some of this
functionality? Anyone interested in writing some code? Anyone have some
good VB.net snippits that I can use? lol

This would be a really good app for any emergency managers who use
Aloha/CAMEO, as it would allow them access to any APRS-IS weather station.

Any thoughts would be much appreciated.
