What about the '<' packet type, defined on page 77 the APRS spec. Isn't
that exactly what you are looking for? The spec wording says it is only to
be used as a response to queries, but I've seen applications that send
those packets periodically, without being queried for. There should be a
list of station capabilities maintained separately from the spec, so that
new "flags" can be easily defined, but I'm not sure if there is such a list.

That would be very limited indeed, just four independent bits. The mic-e
flooding system already defines a use for the destination callsign SSID,
but I haven't seen it implemented anywhere. I'd rather see a text/ascii
flag of some sorts used in the body of a packet, maybe '<', '>' or in the
comment part of a regular packet.

As far as I can tell, that's intended only for Igates, and only in response
to a query as you pointed out.
It not only leaves out stations that are not Igates (i.e., nearly all of
them), but it is also extremely verbose. I'm all for readable text, but in
the case of a fairly complete set of station capabilities it would be a
huge packet of clear text as opposed to two or three bytes if one bit flags
are used. The latter would be compact enough to include in every packet.

Great job.
I see my digipeater in there, but with a truncated callsign. It might be
accidental, but most likely due to the full text overwriting some other
digi's to my east. Look on the Australia and NZ image, on the south
coast, mine is the last heading West before you get to the group on the
Western coast near Perth. The text is "VK5R", the full call is "VK5RPL-1".
Was my callsign intentionally altered?? (-: Maybe under some pressure
from the big boys in Adelaide? Just kidding.
Regards,
Michael.

Hello Dave,
Thanks for letting me know about the distance from RR track to roadway. I
made an assumption that they were close. It's been a few years since I was
there and I remember seeing the roadway at some points along the ride but
now you mention it, it wasn't visible all the time.

Nice map;
however, I am amazed which names the map developer have selected to
show. Except for Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim, the few place names which
are shown, are of places which are less than small, while nearby towns
remain unmentioned.
At least, I can see that my own station is close to the neighbouring
country, which is true :-)

I've noticed the same thing elsewhere in areas I am familiar with in
Viet Nam and Mexico.
Why are your headers coming back through the list as "RE: Spam"? Is
this a spam filter gone nuts??

I posted the same announcement about the digipeater maps to several Yahoo
groups including UIview and CAL APRS.
I haven't received the posting back (or anything else) from any Yahoo
group, including the very active UIview one, for over 18 hours now. I
see my posts if I visit the Yahoo group website but nothing is coming back
via email?
Is anyone else experiencing this?
Has Yahoo's groups server had a meltdown?

I am experiencing the same thing. I posted to 3 groups this morning,
all showed up on the web, but no e-mail at all! So your not alone on this!
