I have one of these Wx stations and the TNC must be in "transparent"
mode for any of the data to be transmitted. The data logger comes from
Wx console to the TNC. This way it can act as standalone Wx station

Subject: [aprssig] PCSAT-1 digipeater off

End of PCSAT-1 Winter operating period.

During the afternoon pass over USA, PCSAT-1 was overloaded over the west
coast and crashed back to W3ADO-1 at 1850z. But one minute later we had
AOS over the Naval Academy ground station and recovered it to PCSAT-1 and
digipeating..

But the number of users was just so high, that there was no way she would
survive the next eclipse. So after 8 minutes of operations and just prior
to LOS, we turned off the digipeater and set the MYCALL tto NODIGI as a way
of letting users know the digi was off.

This is probably the end of this PCSAT-1 operating period. We will see if
the NODIGI will hold. But eclipses still get worse and eventually she will
be back to resetting on every orbit and be practially useless except
mid-day sunnyside passes for a lucky packet or two...

The next full receovery period will be the second week in March.
Then none until October.

The FINDU lookup (link below) shows all APRS objects or stations using the
QSO repeater symbol and less than 10% of them show their frequency as their
object name so that they show up well on the mobile radios.
http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/symbol.cgi?icon=/r&limit 00

The rest of them simply show a callsign. This makes them indistinguishible
from just another APRS packet station when seen on the mobile radio's front
panel station list. This is not very useful information when the frequency
would be so much more useful.

There are some cheap rotators floating about from KOPEK.

I am wondering what feed back mechanism they use ?

I would like to add computer control using a PIC board

Ideas ?

Subject: [aprssig] Free UIDIGI ROMs

Just a reminder, I'm still offering free UIDIGI EPROMs - just send me your
configuration (a prepared .bin is best) and I'll mail you a programmed
EPROM. Put that old TNC2 clone to use as a modern digipeater! If you need
any help getting the configuration right for the new paradigm, Chris
Kantarjiev (cak_at_dimebank.com) can help you out.

I've got a new EPROM burner, so I can get these things burned with a lot
less hassle now - no more copying files to floppy and burning them from the
DOS machine! Shipping is free, too - first class mail for the US, and
airmail for the rest of the world.

Note that the chips I'm using are one-time programmable - they have no
erase window and can't be reused. Keeps 'em cheap and prevents anyone from
abusing the program. If you screw up the config and need another one, just
send me a new file and I'll burn another chip.

UIDIGI information can be found at http://www.ir3ip.net/iw3fqg/uidigi-e.htm.

Scott

EVERY TIME YOU WENT INTO THE INTERNET PLEASE DO NOT INTERFERE WITH THE TNC
YOU WILL SCREW IT UP AS THE UNITED NATION ALWAYS SAY THAT ECOM MUST BE VERY
SIMPLE AND EFFECTIVE IN COMMUNICATION IN ANY DISASTER.

THESE KEN WOOD RADIOS HAVE THE ABILITY TO OPERATE STAND ALONE OR WITH A
PALM, PC OR A NOTEBOOK, THE RADIO CAN DO TEXT MESSAGE, IT ALSO HAVE A BUILT
IN MAIL BOX YOU CAN SEND AND RETRIEVE MESSAGES AS WELL IT GOT AND OVER KILL
SWITCH MENU SETTING IF THE MAIL BOX IS FULL IT DELETES THE OLDER MESSAGES
THUS RECEIVING YOUR MAILS.

YOU HAVE MAIL BOX CONNECTION WHICH ALL MAIL BOXES IS EXAMPLE 9Z4FZ-1 THIS IS
MY MAIL BOX, WHICH I CAN CONNECT TO OR ANY OTHER TM-D700A MAIL BOX AS WELL
THE RADIO CAN CONNECT VIA THE CONSOLE AND SEND A TEXT MESSAGE, WE CAN ALSO
DO A CONNECT VIA THE CONSOLE WHICH CALL WILL CARRY A SSID SO MY CONSOLE CALL

WE HAVE FOUND HOW TO FULLY USE THESE RADIOS, CHAT, APRS TEXT MESSAGE AND
MAIL THES RADIOS HAVE A MESSAGE BOARD WELL HAMS WE ARE ENJOYING THES KENWOOD
RADIOS AND MOST OF ALL YOU CAN WORK THE BIRDIES WITH THESE RADIO THE
SATELLITES.

THE TNC DID GIVE US SOME HEADACHES BUT NOW AFTER MONTHS OF PLAYING AROUND,
WE NOW GOT IT RIGHT YOU HAVE TO KNOW WHICH TNC MENU TO PUT ON AND WHAT TO
LEAVE ON.

ALSO VERY IMPORTANT THERE IS SOME MENUE IN THE TNC THAT ARE ON HAVE TO BE
PUT OF YES SO MUCH YOU CAN DO WITH THESE RADIO IS UNBELIEVABLE TO GO INTO
THE TNC YOU NEED A TERMINAL PROGRAMME TO DO THIS.

WHILE IN TERMINAL MODE THE WORLD IS STILL YOURS.

BECAUSE THIS IS WERE THE ACTION IS YES YOU CAN STILL COMMUNICATE SO GUYS
