I run Xastir on both Solaris 10 11/06 (u3) and OpenSolaris b54. If it's of
general interest, I can make packages available, but like most xastir
users, I build off CVS regularly...

best,

I can beat all of you for mass, at least - my VAX 6000-510's hard drives
alone weigh more than all of those put together! Speaking of which, if
anyone out there wants a VAX, it's free for the taking - I need to free up
some garage space.

Aside from that, I've got an SGI Indigo 2, NeXTStation Turbo Color,
AlphaStation 200, two SparcStation IPXs, two VAXStations, two MicroVAX IIs,
a Sparc 10 clone, a stack of HDS ViewStation X terminals (which have
actually been used for Xastir), a few C-64's, VIC-20s, and a C-128 (gave
the PETs away, sadly), and more 486s and things than I can count, despite
giving away a station wagon load recently. One 486 is still in use burning
UI-Digi ROMs.

How about an Atari 400, diskless, a touch pad keyboard, with a cassette
tape drive. "Star Raiders" is still a cool game. :)

I still occasionally use a Basis 108 (German-made Apple ][ clone) or a
Laser 128 (Chinese Apple //c clone) to burn eproms with an APB (Apparat
Prom Blaster) card.

Subject: [aprssig] Anyone using the SCS DSP Tracker?????
x-avg-checked=avg-ok-251F77F5

I have an SCS DSP Tracker bought recently, see
http://www.scs-ptc.com/controller.html it was intended to run it on HF APRS
@ 300 baud. I have had a lot of grief in trying to get this thing to work,
or at least check its operation, before I switch it to APRS mode and get on
air.

The TRCONFIG program works OK to load the parameters to the unit, however
the explanation of some parameters is not clear as to the function they
have. Whilst the documentation makes mention of TNC2, its not like the TNC2
I know of old. The unit is claimed to also work as a Packet TNC and that is
where I started with it, in attempt to get it going. The manual gave a list
of programs to try, that were allegedly compatible....after 2 days, 3
WIN98SE reloads because one of the programs (Easy Transfer) kept lunching
DLLs after install, I still could not get this thing running. Tried Paxon,
NcHost etc too, but I was successful in getting dumb terminal mode on 1
program to "talk" to the unit under XP pro, but that was it. I suspect the
USB driver that SCS use is part of the problem on WIN98SE, since it looks
like the Tracker must run (Nordlink) Hostmode, however documentation is
scant on this. I tried XP pro and got more reliable USB comms with
programs, however it still will not work properly with suggested software.
I am reluctant to simply set it up on APRS as it is, without first testing
it on Packet. I would appreciate any ideas that might get this unit going
reliably. I do know it is transmitting UI frames, but that about it!

How about a Toshiba T3200 laptop with labels suggesting made in 1987?
Orange screen, 40M hard disk, 720k floppy. You need a big sturdy lap of
course.

I use it with Digi_ned as a luggable digipeater/gateway and other
occasional jobs.

I have updated my mirror of the WB4APR "official" APRS website located
on the U.S. Naval Academy server. It is now currrent as of 31 Dec 2006
and now includes the ANDE-RAFT Satellite Operations page (new since my
last mirroring of the site).

Many users outside the U.S. have had problems accessing the original due
to a mis-configured domain server at the academy. The URL of the
original is:

or via direct IP addressing

Note that the frequently quoted URL for this site ending in a .MIL domain
is obsolete. The use and quoting of the .MIL URL should be discontinued.

My mirror site is located, as before, at:
