Mike,
I would recommend using &autorange=1 parameter, an example:
http://www.findu.com/cgi-bin/tele1.cgi?call=k42c&last=96¶m=1&b=0.1&label=sul
ppy%20voltage&units=volts&autorange=1

I'll try to be helpful here... First, most UPS's do not run on 12v, they run
on 48v for the older and larger units and the newer one's use a lower
voltage, but still much higher than 12v required for TNC's and radios, so
you simply cannot use a UPS to keep batteries charged to run a TNC/Radio if
this is what you were thinking...
The best thing to do, and is what I do, is use a UPS to power your PC's and
other devices that NEED 115v, then use a large 12v power supply to power
radios and TNC's. If you buy separate 12v batteries and keep them charged
using a West Mountain radio, PWRGate, to keep them charging, then when you
have a power loss, your UPS only runs those devices requiring 115v and then
the rest will automatically be powered on batteries using the PWRGate. I
think this is a similar config that many I have heard on this list also use.

I dont understand what you are trying to do.

It depends. Many, I'd even say most of, today's small and affordable UPSes
(well under 1 kVA) use a single 12 volt sealed lead battery. Higher VA
versions use several batteries connected in series, for example I have one
under my desk that eats five (60 volts) and another at work that has eight
(96 volts). The bigger you go in kVA, the higher the voltage, generally.
I agree that directly plugging into a UPS's battery for 12 volts for
radios, TNCs, and such isn't necessarily a good idea. Use the UPS for those
devices that need "house current" and use a power supply with a battery for
12V. Some just use a big sealed lead battery and a smart battery charger
permanently connected together. If you want to spend some money, the
pwrgate works fine as well.
If you absolutely have no use for uninterruptible AC, then by all means use
it to power the DC equipment. But keep in mind that many small off-line
UPSes aren't designed to continuously run on/charge batteries. So if you
continuously "steal" 12 volts from the battery, you might fry something up,
especially on a higher load. On-line UPSes always convert all power going
through them to DC, so they should handle continuous DC loads better.

Subject: [aprssig] APRS Path Monitoring and Channel Loading Pages For
SoCal Added To My Website
I now have both of M0CYP's UI-View add-ons up and running with my UI-View
webserver.
UI-Traffic and UI Network Analysis are up and running generating statistics
for southern California, as monitored off the air at my home in Pasadena,
California.
Website is:
Click on the link for "144.39 MHz 2-Meter VHF activity in southern
California".
For non-US viewers, note the enormous channel loading in Los Angeles
(the reason for all the path changes and discussions in North America).
[ The UI-Traffic display is running on local time (US Pacific Time). To
see the full effect of the Los Angeles rush hours on APRS loading before
the graph clears and resets at midnight local time, check out the
UI-Traffic graph at about 0000 to 0400 UTC.

Tapio,
UPSes (well under 1 kVA) use a single 12 volt sealed lead battery.>>>
Thank you, I did not know this, all the larger UPS units I have ever seen
use from 24-96 volts DC. Good info...!

The UPS that I checked out and posted the original message about had only 1
12volt/7Ah sealed lead acid in it and was 600va UPS

Pack 1 Released.
For those of you using Precision Mapping 8.0 with UI-View.......
The original release of Precision Mapping 8.0 re-introduced several bugs
that had been removed from late releases of Ver 7.0 with several service
packs.
Worse, a corrupted road database used in the build for Ver 8.0 resulted in
HUNDREDS of older and major streets in Los Angeles county, California being
broken or just plain missing. Here are some comparisons between PMap 7
and PMap 8:
Fwy-110-Four-Level.gif >
These problems have now been fixed with the release of Service Pack 1 for
PMap 8.0 Download it here:
This is an 18MB self-extracting installer. Unpack it into the main
Precision Mapping 8.0 program folder.
The WA8LMF "UI-View Notes" pages, noted in the footer of each message on
this list, have been updated to reflect the service pack release.
