Not quite. The following page doesn't include the date stamp.
www.findu.com/cgi-bin/raw.cgi?call=WE4APR-9

The following one does.
www.findu.com/cgi-bin/raw.cgi?call=WE4APR-9&time=1

The time is UTC, and as far as I know, the time shown is the time
according to the APRS-IS at the moment it was gated.

PS - it looks like the above station transmits the status text
"147.075Mhz_VoiceAlert 144.39" every single transmission.
If the device being used has the capability, it could be backed off to
every several transmissions to save bandwidth.

It is the time it reached the findU server, which is generally a second or
two later than the time it passes through the IGate.

Thanks. Those are lists for just a single callsign. We are looking at the
overall list on the bottom of the pcsat.aprs.org page which Steve has
prepared to capture all the packets both FROM and digiepated BY all four of
our satellites. In this case we are interested in the list of all raw
packets heard on their downlinks for quick comparison as a whole so it is
helpful to click on the UTC version of the overall table and list.

Thanks
Bob

But again, just like the example Keith gave, the URL that is generated when
you click on that link can be copied into email, saved as bookmarks, etc.
You do not need to go to the first page and click

Steve Ford's January 2007 Eclectic Technology profiled a freeware
alternative to the Pactpr based WinLink 2000. Unfortunately for many its
only available in Linux. Fortunately, for the misfortunate there is a Live
Boot CD available from SM0RWO at

It is a 411 MB download as an ISO file ready to be burned. I have booted it
up on two different Intel based machines here and it runs very nicely. The
disk was hard to get as the first few days after QST hit homes, the website
got hammered pretty hard, It took me 12 hours to pull the file!

This is pretty neat, I didn't even know something like this existed, and
being a linux program makes it all more the better for me! :D

I'm definitely going to look into this, I would love to see a free
alternative to the overhyped Winlink system.

Thanks for sharing!

So explain what isn't "free" about WinLink?
And why is it overhyped?

I think it's about as free as it can get, except maybe if you consider the
cost of a Pactor-3 modem, which isn't nearly as expensive as a nice HF rig.
Using Packet, even miserly Hams can access Winlink via Telpac using
existing packet modems and VHF radios. You do NOT need Pactor-3 to access
it, many older packet modems include Pactor-1 which works fine most times.

I think it isn't hyp'ed enough!

It's a great system.

It serves the Amateur community daily, 24/7, not just putting blips on maps
for the amusement of of Ham's wife wondering where her husband is.

And a Linux flavor is surely welcomed now! So just what is PSKMail? If it
doesn't have the infrastructure of WinLink it will never be much use. I
can't download a 411MB file to find out. that's worse than buying a
Pactor-3 modem!

Oh, I don't know... how about the source code, is that freely available for
WinLink?

Exactly my point. We as end users can not do what we want with it, I'm sure
there are many linux users here (including myself) that will agree with what
I am saying.

I'm sure the Winlink thing has been debated several times, but I support any
project that is grass roots and open source and freely available for anyone
to use and implement.

I have friends who have invested money in equipment so they could become a
PMBO and were turned down, that is a load of crap in my book. I think anyone
who is willing to volunteer their own time, money and equipment in support
of an emergency infrastructure should not be selected by one controlling
entity. Sure you could setup a telpac bridge, but again, need to have
permission from the winlink "gods"

It's the equivalent of saying "You can't run an igate unless your approved,
and even at that we're going to place restrictions on you"

I've been waiting for an open source system to rival Winlink for quite some
time now. This looks like a good start.

A Pactor II or III modem is proprietary and VERY expensive for just one
mode. I don't think PSK is the answer because it is not fast enough,
but I wish someone would develop something to use as a replacement for
Pactor that is not proprietary and offered by one vendor only.

Yes it has. It's one of the religious wars, not quite "code vs. no-code",
but close (I know, I probably unleased that here too. :( )

To bring this back on-topic, there's a Winlink -> APRS gateway. Is there a
PSKMail one yet?
