I have one of Scott's Opentrackers(OT1) monitoring a camp on Schoodic lake
in Maine(N1IVY-5). I'm using the one-wire firmware with a temperature
sensor. It works very well, gaps in the data show power outages.

Thanks for the replies. Scott, your Opentracker looks interesting. The
DB9 "Y" cable you mentioned, is it home brew also? Ok on the diode on
the Opentracker, but what about the existing tnc sensing the Opentracker
keying the radio?
Thanks,
Rick ka1udx

No, only comercial TNC that does this is the KPC-3+ and KPC-9612+. They put
out the standard APRS telemetry protocol for 5 telemetry values. The
format is MYCALL>BEACON,PATH:T#SSS,111,222,333,444,555,11111111
Where SSS is the serial number of the packet, then 5 analog values (0 to
255) and then 8 digitial bits. Displaying voltages or current or
temperature is as simple as hooking up some resistors and/or a thermistor.
FINDU.COM then can log and display these over time.
See FINDU Telemetry stations:

Does the KPC-3+ allow you to set a path for the telemetry? I recall that
the destination address was hard coded to BEACON, and I'm wondering if path
is as well.

The 'Y' cable is a standard, off-the-shelf part. I don't have them listed
on my website, but I have a few on hand. When I was using this setup with a
KPC-3, I never had any real trouble with the TNC not detecting the tracker.
If it's solely a digi, then most of the time the TNC is going to transmit
only after it receives a packet. Set the tracker to have a long quiet time
value, and it'll only transmit when the channel is quiet and the digi isn't
going to be transmitting, except for the occasional ID. The chances of a
collision are small, and the fact that the tracker can detect the TNC's
transmission will tend to keep the two apart even if the interval is the
same.
You might have trouble if you're running open squelch, though - the OT
doesn't have true DCD. You can probably set it up with some creative wiring
in the TNC. Or you could just wait until my Tracker2 is done. =]
Weather permitting, I'll be flying a T2 prototype on a high-altitude balloon
in the Mojave desert this Saturday. It'll be sending telemetry, tracking
data, and will be acting as a digipeater. Anyone in range is welcome to try
bouncing a message through it. I should have messaging capability at N1VG-8
(my TH-D7) and whatever I set up in the chase vehicle.

Can't Play It
Hi...
Well, here are my findings, for what it's worth...
Windows 2000 Pro (fully licensed and legit and up to date.)
The CD (Deluxe) player does not produce any sound, though it appears to
"play" the disk, that is, you can hear the disk drive start and move the
pickup about etc, and the numbers go round, but no sound.
WiMP (V 9.0.x.x.xx) Plays it OK, even ignoring the first data track, so
getting the announcements right for the displayed track numbers.
Interesting watching the tones with some of the spectral waterfall type of
visualisations...
Interestingly, the W2k CD player, does not produce any sound with a genuine
audio CD. Hmmm.. Currently listening to the 1492 CD (Vangelis) via WiMP
while I type this.
As to the data track. (TNC test disk in another drive now, a DVD-+RW)
The RTF file is corrupt, all I get (in any of 3 RTF compatible readers) is
pages of square blocks, the Null character I think.
Several of the .gif's are also corrupt, neither IE6 nor Paint Shop Pro (V7)
will open them. IE shows the frame with a red X in the top left. PSP
burps and says it's not a valid gif format file.
1200-2200-DeEmph.gif is OK, as is the "flat" version of this. All the
other .gif's are bad.
The DigiStar.ico file is also corrupt, just a load of null bytes.
The Autorun.inf file, is likewise corrupt, just a line of block characters.
At least I can play the audio tracks on a "real" audio player!
My guess is your original Roxio file was OK, but odd things happened during
the conversion to the Nero format.
It's worth noting, that there were some recent updates for part of the
Roxio system, as some of the drivers caused compatibility trouble with
other programs, auto updates etc...
All the best.
Dave G0WBX.

The path is taken from your UNPROTO setting.

It uses whatever you have in the the UNPROTO command.
I'm monitoring a couple of solar sites with the KPC3+ take a look at
http://www.gmra.org/aprs/solar/ (works best with a mozilla browser).
The graphs are from findu.

Can't Play It
1) I think the CDplayer app only issues the mechanical transport
controls for the drive. If some other sound-using app has taken over
control of the audio pathways through the Windows sound system, CDplayer
can't reclaim them.
2) I've heard enough complaints about the corrupted RTF and image
files in the Nero version to conclude that someting is wrong with that
version of the file. I'm going to remove references to the Nero version
of the file from my website.
