Ok, so the Central US is using 446.175 and SoCal is using 438.975.
I'd like to hear more of your activities using 9600 baud UHF APRS.
What radios are you using, what kind of activity levels and interest are
you experiencing?
Maybe it's just my oversight not having picked up on other 9600 baud UHF
APRS across the states. I really haven't heard of it spoken much about
except here in the NWAPRS/Puget Sound area.

Part of the central US.
In Iowa I use 440.975 but it's not all that published either, more of an
experimental deal. It's a Tekk Data radio which is crystal controlled so I
probably won't be switching any time soon. It's been on that freq either
for packet 9600 baud or aprs for about 12 years. As far as activity, there
are a few people with D700's that use it (the site it's at only gives about
a 15-20 mile coverage circle).

In Central California,on mt. Oso we are trying 441.500, 1200 baud. Mybe
we need to try 9600.. 446.175 is used by repeaters here in CA. Jim

Subject: [aprssig] D7 and ITEM
Can someone tell me if the D7 will/should decode an ITEM packet, or if this
is one of the types that the D7 just ignores? We're trying to advertise a
repeater with
)W6WGZ-Rpt!3717.55N/11941.04Wr 147.180+PL146.2 441.175+PL146.2
The digi is a TNC-X/Digi-X, which only allows 63 characters of btext. Using
an OBJECT with a timestamp doesn't allow the entire text to be sent. So we
switched to ITEM. The packet is getting to FINDU just fine, but I never see
it on my D7, so I'm wondering....
(And, not to start a flame, but does the D7's decoder just stink? I "hear"
what seem to be nice solid packets but the majority don't decode at all...
some do. Maybe something wrong with my radio, though, since I can't seem to
get a decodable posit out as of about 12 hours ago, either.)

Chris,
Yes, in my experience, the D-7's decoder "stinks" and I think its because,
#1, it does not like less the perfect deviation from the sending stations,
and #2, it needs a good signal input. Your chances of improvement is depent
on the antenna you use. The shipped antenna is a dummy load! I greatly
improved my results by changing to a better antenna with more capture
length..
If you are using it mobile, get away from using any flexible springy
antenna.. The whipping around causes data loss in a heartbeat!
I haven't any experience in sending "ITEMS"
Good luck and let us know about your expeience in changing antennas... :-)

I would like to know what I should set my Path for, in order to Gate PCSAT
signals over to local Digi (AA4QI) when it passes over.
I have a PK-900, which will do an EXCELLENT job, as soon as I get the Path
set up.

You should use a path such as ARISS,SGATE,WIDE2-2
First, your packet will be digipeated by PCSAT using the "ARISS" alias.
Second, SatGates that hear your digipeated packet and are set up with
the "SGATE" alias, will digipeat your packet over to the terrestrial
(144.39) frequency.
After that, your packet will be digipeated using the standard WIDE2-2
rules on 144.39 and will likely make it to a local IGATE and the
APRS-IS.
Related to this, here is a "how-to" for setting up a D700 to act as a
mobile SatGate to help send ISS and PCSAT packets over to the APRS-IS:

Subject: [aprssig] new aprsworld.net database server
Hello group,
The new aprsworld.net database server is mostly online. Please start using
it! If you find anything odd, please e-mail me so I can fix it.
http://db2.aprsworld.net/datamart/search.php
The new machine is much, much faster than the old database server. As all
of the functions get moved over to the new machine you should notice a
marked increase in speed. This will allow some new functionality to be
added. Future plans include reworking the station display page and greatly
improving the weather pages.
I'm looking forward to any suggestions for possible aprsworld.net interface
improvements. The interface has remained mostly static for about three
years now - the internet has marched on and I think there is probably some
really neat things that can be done. Of course volunteers are welcome. My
hobby time is very limited these days.
The new database server cost $1231.50. So far $405.51 has been donated.
Much thanks go to those that have contributed. I would really appreciate it
if people could chip in a few bucks and cover the whole cost. Please see
http://www.aprsworld.net for donation details.
Dave MacFarland, KF4PJH, was kind enough to donate another computer. This
one is a dual Pentium 3 933 MHz. In time it will become the primary map
server or will load share with the current aprsworld.net map server. Thanks
go out to Dave MacFarland, Leigh Klotz, Wes Johnston, Byonics (Byon), Fran
Miele. Jesse Johnson, Michael Yancey, Jason Rausch (big thanks!), Brian
Riley, and all of the past aprsworld.net sponsors. Also kudos to Jarvis
Computer Software and APRS World, LLC for providing bandwidth and space for
the two new servers.
-Jim KB0THN
PS - those of you with direct MySQL access should continue using
db.aprsworld.net. db2.aprsworld.net will not provide open MySQL access.
