The SD125 is a very nice radio, I have 20 of them I am using at work. I
got the UHF version from RFWIZ at $189.00 each.

I still need to look in the manual about 9600 baud use to answer Dave's
question, but I am sure they do it.

Do any of their models work on 144-148 MHz without modification? The thing
I really like about the models I've seen is the sturdy, easy-to-mount case.

Order some of these ASAP! I was curious to see what the price is, so
I added one to my "shopping cart" on the web site to see the price. The
online form is writing these up for $1.00 each ! Order now and
save!

Andrew,

If you want a dedicated radio for 2m APRS in Australia, get hold of a
Philips FM828 (A band). Strictly speaking you should get a B band to cover
145.175MHz but I've never had any problem getting the A band radios to tune
down to as low as 144.700MHz, and I've "converted" many. Besides, A band
are common, B band are as scarce as hen's teeth. You shouldn't pay any more
than $10 for the radio, plus about $50 for a set of *DECENT* crystals. You
can buy *rubber* crystals for less. The FM828 will run 25W 24/7/365 and
would be one of the most reliable radios ever built anywhere in the world.

Subject: RE: [aprssig] 9600b UHF APRS IS THE FUTURE OF APRS

Yeah right... Even APRS's "low bandwidth" use, at 2GBP a meg, (or more
expensive) it'll add up to some serious GPRS or 3G bill's.

Take great care hyping "other" methods of propogating APRS, not all the
world has free 'net on their phones, and other teritories can (are) very
fussy about what we transmit on UHF. In the UK, for a long time now,
unatended operation at 70cms has been prohibited, except for established
voice repeaters etc. There is light at the end of the tunnel, but it may
yet be a freight train coming at us.

Also, please remember, we don't all have the same frequency allocation. The
UK (and EU) is 430 to 440, and much of that in parts of the UK is unusable,
as commercial users are in there too. Our "Primary" user of that band is
the military, and they have the final say anyway.

Don't get me started on the HDTV discussion topic, here we are being
pressed more and more to "go digital", but the program material is pure
crap of the lowest order, sadly much of it imported from the US sadly!...
What is now regarded as "HD"TV, we used to have exactly that quality with
good UHF analog, but that is now corrupted with the noise (literaly) of the
terestrial digital signals, not that many people had their sets properly
setup in th first place.

Take care. As quoted re the AK-47, low tech' gets the job done, and is
resilaint to user abuse.

Xastir: Saves each unique status or comment text and displays them on
separate lines in the Station Info dialog, with a date/timestamp for each
showing the most recent time that text was seen.

I see you've been hanging around Hamsexy. This reminds me of one of our
locals that has a nice antenna farm on top of his car. All mag mounts, not
a hole drilled anywhere. It's not like he's trying to retain the value of
the car, it's a late 80's pontiac. The best part is there's not a radio to
be found anywhere inside his car. Granted, they could be buried under the
pile of crap in the passenger and back seats. However you'd expect to see
a mic or two. I looked and they could not be found.

There's something to be said for mounting your radios.

Sean...
