PCSAT-1 remains fully operational as a digipeater on 145.825 up and down
using the aliases of PCSAT-1, ARISS, RELAY, WIDE and WIDEn-N and TRACEn-N.
Users are welcome to use it and we are seeing about 80 people a day.

PCSAT-1 was resetting to W3ADO-1 a few times (the bad default power
negative condition), but as long as the SIDE-B system does not reset at the
same time, then PCSAT-1 is recoverable and useable. But as long as people
do not use the W3ADO-1 path, but use the other ones above instead, then we
should be able to keep PCSAT-1 alive for a few more weeks.

Enjoy... http://pcsat.aprs.org

I was thinking of building one around the National LMX1601. It's a
cellphone PLL. It is serial programmable (does require a microcontroller,
but then again something has to modulate the signal anyway!), includes the
prescalers, dual modulus counters, phase comparators and charge pump. You
still need to provide an external VCO.

In fact, you could probably drop this chip in in place of the MC145170 in
the PocketTracker, although I haven't done a detailed comparison.

And an external sense, please. I prefer to connect my radios direct to the
battery (or close to it), but use the ACC circuit to switch them on and
off. It would be awesome if something like the AP04 would use the external
sense as well as the battery voltage... and yes, provide 5V @ 1W :-)

Those Astrodyne DC/DC units are very sweet looking! Any idea how well they
deal with the wide voltage swings in old generator/regulator vehicles? My
"battery" voltage sometimes dips to 9V, which plays havoc with a few things
that want "12V" in.

What about the folks who make the ultrasonic water level meter? Maybe they
could sell you/ shed light on their low power transmitter?

Many of the Astrodyne units are available in wide-input-range versions for
a few bucks more that can tolerate an input that varies over a 2:1 range.
I am currently using several 9-18 VDC input/ 12 VDC out (isolated - no
common ground) and 9-18 VDC-in/5 VDC-out units in my mobile SSTV LiveCAM
installation. A 1-watt 9-18in/5 VDC out unit powers my
permanently-installed car "house GPS" (by contrast with portable or
mouse-type units I might temporarily place on the dash) It which supplies
4 different devices with data with excellent results. The GPS never
hiccups, even on voltage sags when I crank my Jetta's TDI turbo-diesel
engine.

I asked about using their transmitter, but didn't get a response when
I asked about it being possible to buy separately.

First.aprs.net is down in the wake of a power failure. I'm out of town but
my system administrator is sitting in the dark waiting for the mains to
come up again, whereupon he will start bringing systems back up in an
orderly manner. We hope.

We lost, depending on reports, 3 345kVa circuits or 3 720kVa circuits about
2300z tonight. Our backup plan didn't work for power. Other plans are now
in formulation.

Sorry for the inconvenience.
