For those who missed it, here's my presentation from DCC, minus some tweaks
I made at the last minute and 45 minutes of explanation on what it all
means. It shows some pictures of the waypoint translation in action,
though.

I am finding many references to using APRS for Public Service Events and
for Search and Rescue operations. I'm not finding anything about using APRS
for EmComm.
Does anyone have APRS as a part of their EmComm plan? If so, how are you
planning for APRS to be used?

Figured this new utility I wrote for APRS would be of interest to those
that use IRLP. Works great on the D700 while mobile!
Today I launched a new function to the APRS Depot (www.aprsdepot.com) AR
project that relates to IRLP. Thought everyone would find it
interesting... Send a message to 'APRSDEPOT' with the word 'IRLP'... Find
out where the nearest node is based on your last known APRS location..
Details of the service and other AR functions can be found at

Eric,
Great work.
I am all for integrating IRLP and ECHOlink information into LOCAL APRS.
Anything we can do to improve on getting info to LOCAL mobile users is
great. We need to get going on getting those IRLP and ECHOlink beacons out
of 144.39... We had them at one time... May need to get that going
again...

I use WinAPRS Version 2.8.5 and sending a message to 'APRSDEPOT' will not
work. It needs to be addressed to a Ham Call type designation like APRS-1
or APRSDE-1 or like WLNK-1. Not sure how other APRS platforms work but this
system does not work with WinAPRS.
Might I suggest perhaps using IRLP-1 for the address and have your APRSDEPOT
snag it and then send out the reply.

APRSDEPOT works fine. This is an neat feature. Thanks for making it work.

Somebody correct me if I'm wrong, but I was always under the impression
that a call without an SSID was considered a group call (of sorts)..
WinAPRS should be able to send to msg groups... Perhaps it is a separate
feature in WinAPRS like "Send message to group" or something..??? In
Xastir it works very well but it does return as a 'Group Message'.

In AX.25, there's always an SSID, but one of the SSIDs is 0. Many
applications display only the call if the SSID is 0 (e.g. KG4WSV-0 is
displayed as KG4WSV).

Sounds like a useful feature, Scott. My EMA Director is pretty tied to his
mapping program and doesn't want me to tell him that he has to run an APRS
client in order to see APRS trackers. If we can easily dump APRS posits in
NMEA format to a mapping program, that'd be great!

Are they EVER going to release an H/T with a GPS in it?
Or will every other device on the planet but APRS radios have embedded GPS?

APRSdos does it. Converts all incoming APRS info to NMEA GGA on the second
serial port for looping to any other program that only receives NMEA.
