I swear sometimes I think this mailing list server doesn't care that I'm
here. I sent the very thing K4RXR mentioned (with some extra information)
to the list two days ago and no one noticed (presumably because no one
received it).

Anyway, it would probably be very useful to decode the GPWPL sentence.
Both the D700 and the D7 will echo the GPWPL to the GPS but also up through
the computer serial port provided the Auto Information setting is turned on
(AI 1). You get two devices for one serial connection.

Bad part: The D700 and D7 will also report _ANY_ status change up the
serial port as well. If you turn the VFO knob, flip channels, etc., you'll
get a message through the serial port. It gets really interesting if you
set them to perform a VFO or memory scan. The thing will transmit a status
message for each frequency or memory channel it hits. So any piece of
software will have to be a bit more picky about what it chooses to accept
and what it chooses to ignore.

I guess my question would be how are the messages formatted when sent out
the serial port of the T2 ( I suppose I should test this in my own house
rather than ask aloud on the sig).... consider this:
Remote station sends me a message.
I get the message and the T2 sends it out the serial port.
Remote station never hears my ACK
Remote station sends message again.
I get the message and the T2 sends it out the serial port.

Is the message number included in the text so I can keep up with what's a
dupe and what's new?

No, it's not displayed unless you have MONITOR on to see the raw packet.

Here is what I have played with so far:-

1) UI packets just sent to air with no ack or anything (assuming path is
good and you are go to send)
2) APRS messaging packets (with ACK)
3) AX25 connected mode then logoff - let the AX25 take care of handshaking

We send check point number, time, and horses going past at that time

I want to use linux at HQ, and I have had good success with PERL on the
serial port.

HORSE,3,10:00,1,2,3,4,5
HORSE,3,10:01,6,7,8,9,10

Why am I doing this ? the end result will be a PHP delivered MySQL table of
the current horse data.

I can not seem to see a full solution - it is bits and pieces

Often is tho

Think I found something

The d700 can handle 10 connections at once.

That is heaps.

We can use a d700 at HQ and then the remote sites can just pump data in and
ax25 takes care of the data for me.

Slightly off topic of this thread but...

I have a 2003 Honda Civic. I notice that the voltage switches from 14.4 to
~12-13 volts intermittently. I assuming its some high tech battery
maintenance idea but it it's a real pain trying to configure my OT to act
on voltage changes.

Anyone experienced anything similar?
