Maybe I wasn't clear in my question..how can I set-up my D7A to 'EMAIL' a
position report at an automatic setting of once or twice a day...?

Such a function is not part of the design of the D7A. Typically a person
can view a station's position via the Internet through various clients and
web services connected to the APRS-IS. I guess that if you have a specific
need to email a position report, then you could write a program that
monitors the APRS-IS and sends a report via email at whatever interval you
desire.

The D7 doesn't do email, it does APRS. To be obnoxiously precise, you
can't.
You _can_ have some program running on an internet attached computer that
watches the APRS-IS data stream for your gated position reports and have it
send email for you.
You can send an APRS _message_ that's gated to email, but you would have to
enter your position as part of the message text. And it's a manual
process.
I can't remember what the maximum TX interval on the D7 is, but I'm pretty
sure it's less that 12 hours, so if you wanted to limit it to once or twice
a day you'd have to beacon manually.

As noted by others, there is no such function to automatically send an APRS
message in the D7. You can do this (sort of) in a couple of ways:
Enter an APRS message to APRS-EM to send an email to your recipient just as
you would to EMAIL (there are more options to javAPRSEmail like being able
to use shortcut names for email addresses; see
http://www.aprs-is.net/email.htm ). The message body generated by APRS-EM
provides a link for the recipient to click on and see a static display of
your position. Once this message is entered into your D7, it stays as the
default until you send a different message. This makes it pretty easy to
resend this message at different times of the day.
The other method (truly automatic) is what was described by someone else on
this list: write an application to monitor the APRS-IS stream for your
position reports (easy to do with a buddy filter on a filter port -
b/AA3JY-7 for instance) and send the email from your application. This
could be done with Perl and most other programming languages and
environments.

I am surprised that noone has made the obvious statement, if you are in a
position that you could use the APRS Email service, you are in a position
to post a position to the APRS-IS. Now f your point is to 'email' that
position to someone else (not some APRS-IS linked server that handles
posits) it would be much easier to wire an application for that person to
run on their machone to get your posit from Findu and compose an email.

I'm guessing that his application is in a maritime environment. There are
some services that accept position reports via email, usually sent with
winlink or commerical vendor. Often the email, sent over HF, contains
position report and weather information. Perhaps he wants to send email
via APRS, instead of winlink, while in port.
I have recently wondered if ship locations would be able to be included on
a sub-net of the APRS-IS (sort of like firenet for ships at sea). I've
noticed that at http://www.sailwx.info/shiptrack/shiplocations.phtml there
are lots of ships listed with amateur radio callsigns.

I was sitting back to see the response, because I thought that someone had
already written this application. But I guess it was never made public. I
can see the interest in such an application.
User who will be traveling wants to update family on whereabouts on log
trip. This application is called POSIT-MAIL. He runs POSIT mail on his
PC before leaving home. He tells POSIT-MAIL these inputs:
Callsign to be tracked -
Email address to send to -
Start date/time -
End date/time -
Reporting rate -
POSIT-MAIL watches APRS-IS for 'callsign' and sends email with lat/long and
nearest city. Subject Email also has a link to 'map.findu.com/callsign' so
recepient can also bring up the map.
Done...?

Firenet is, as I understand it, a separate APRS internet system. There's
absolutely nothing wrong with setting up an APRS server to gateway this
data to interested parties (who show interest by connecting to the
dedicated "shipnet" server).
Before something like this would be tied to the "main" APRS-IS things like
traffic bandwidth need to be discussed.
