I am considering purchasing one of the so called "antenna analysers".
There's the Palstar ZM30 or the MFJ versions available.
_ _ _
Having seen and used some Made From Junk atu's and other stuff in the past
I'm not keen on purchasing MFJ stuff. Besides everyone I know (so far)
thinks the same as me.
The Palstar appears to be a bit more like the spec I understand except
it's frequency coverage is only 1-30Mhz as opposed to the VHF and UHF
coverage included in the MFJ.
Is anyone able to give comments ?
Judging purely by adverts only I get the impression the MFJ frequency
accuracy is somewhat "ball park" due to it's apparent use of basic GDO
style oscillators (which in my experience have a lot to be desired) !
Please bear in mind that I have little experience of amateur style
antenna stuff. The least I've ever used is an Anritzu Site Master
and I'm more used to having "proper" network/vector analysers to hand
to do the job properly.
Unfortunatly lugging around company equipment isn't always possible
so I've been looking for some time at the possibility of some bit of
cheap equipment to perform basic measurements.
I get really cheesed off when out and about not being able to even do a
basic R+jX measurement on an antenna :-(
Palstar even with limited freq coverage looks increasingly appealing.
With DDS frequency generation and software tools which I assume are like
Anritzu software tools where downloaded data can be viewed as a Smith
Chart or R+jX graph etc the Palstar *appears* to be the winner.
Anyone with any experience ?
And no - I'm not interested in e-ham reviews from 5 minute wonders -
I'd like to hear from someone with at least two braincells ;-) !!
