Hi Keith,

I have it (AXIP TCPIP port 93 link - AGWPE/Winpack over Ethernet Lan to
Xrouter 1.87f) working now. I
found that the version of AGW Packet Switch I was testing was a bit
too old. Ver. 2000.78 doesn't support external drivers such as
LU7DID's AXIPDRV.DLL, so I got a copy of AGW PE 2002.10 into action
instead.

2002.10 does support "external drivers" in its' list of "TNCs" & "Sound
cards". I configured it as you indicated and pointed it to work over
my LAN to my Xrouter. I didn't need any AGWTCPIP additional TOR
driver, nor did I require AGWpro version to make it work. So there
was a Freeware solution.

So any application that can connect to the AGW Packet Switch on my
Win98se PC in the lounge now has access via the Ethernet LAN to my
Shack (downstairs) DOS Xrouter PC that has the TNCs & radios attached.
I have tested Winpack, AGW Terminal & AGW monitor so far. There are
lots more applications in the AGW Suite that will work too. I've
connected to my local F6FBB BBS & read the mail.
UI-View just uses the port 8000 interface built into Xrouter & works
across the LAN without needing AGW Packet Switch.

The final hurdle I haven't got over yet, is that of seeing much
coming through while "not connected". I am seeing NODES broadcasts &
ID Packets (every 30 minutes) from my Xrouter. I hope to try some
other settings in Xrouter like "PIPEFLAG" (increase the flag value)
to see if I can make more unproto traffic flow across the TCPIP port
93 AXIP link.
It is going to be necessary for APRS applications like AGW Tracker. Being
able to monitor the channel with Winpack in monitor mode would be useful.
UI-View has a terminal screen that gices a simple view of the channel
activity, but Winpack would be more useful.

I should repeat the exercise in my other "test bed" PC that runs
Win95. This type of AXIP link will work from one copy of AGWpe to
another copy of AGWpe on another machine. It isn't just for Xrouter.
There are a few other Amateur routing & networking applications that
also use AXIP for linking over the Internet & LANs too.

I can help anyone who wants to try it with the location of the LU7DID
AXIP files on QSL.net web pages. The text file that comes with the
package is quite detailed, apart from not saying that ver. 2002.10 or
better is the AGWpe version that is needed. Xrouter has quite a bit
in it's help & Document files about configuring AXIP & AXUDP links
over a LAN or Internet, so there is no problem there.
