From Humber side comes the following about English cricket, reeling in an
attempt to recover from the mauling received at the World Cup.

QUOTE: Leicestershire beat Yorkshire by six wickets in their FP Trophy
match at their Headingley stadium.

Ho Hum, from what we have heard cricket is a religion in Yorkshire. There
would have been weeping and gnashing of teeth in Leeds on that fateful
day.

In an interview with a bearded follower of the national game we heard a
story of Leonard Hutton, doyen of the cricket public in Yorkshire for some
years before and after WW2. He told of a friend who went to a Test match
against the Aussies in 1938, expecting to see Leonard Hutton make another
brilliant ton (that means "century"). He was interrupted by a friend of
his who came to him and said "George" (his name was George), "George, I
have some bad news for you. Your wife just got run over by a bus and was
killed."
"Really," replied George, "Well I have some bad news for you too.
"Hutton's out."

Back to the papers: Of course it is well known in cricket circles that
much of the strength of the English County cricket liess in imported
players from Australia (There's that word again!! Tsk! Tsk!) and the other
colonies including South Africa (who left in high dudgeon some years back)
and the West Indies. To quote from the Hull press:

QUOTE: A composed 132 by South African Jacques Rudolph saw the Tykes post
282-8. But Sadler won the match with two fours in succession off Stephen
Patterson, finishing on 59, with Nixon adding 42. Wicket-keeper-batsman
Gerard Brophy gave the Yorkshire innings some early momentum after they
chose to bat, with seven fours in a quickfire (fire? More greenhouse gas!)
36.
Western Australian (Hey! Where is that? - Editor) all-rounder James
Allenby had him caught at deep mid-wicket and then claimed the important
wicket of Younis Khan cheaply.

Back to the club rooms. Comments to GM7HUD, and Warren KB (there's that
acronym again!) 2VXA, if he is not trying to come up with something new
and is fully occupied. (pied???? More gas from Warren? Everybody out!!)

I am going back to do further research. Wait for it! This is fun!!!!
