Who said commercial TRX do not work in 9k6?
If they do not work, like the IC 706, it's because they need a too long TX-delay (up to 30 for IC 706).
But I am QRV with 9k6 using an FT7100 (TXD 18-20) and Kenwood TM255/455 (TXD 9-10) and they work fine.
Sure if your TRX is not able too handle short TXD or TXD under 25 you'll be rejected from the digi.
