When I moved house and wanted a temporary 6m antenna I built a cubical
quad out of scrap timber which I used till I could get a yagi up in the
air.I used end plates of squares of 1" pine, drilled a hole in each of the
four sides and inserted dowel of the length needed to take the wire. I
strung the wire through the ends of the dowels. The boom was a piece of
broom stick pushed into holes in the end plates.I can't remember whether I
used a matching stub or whether I merely soldered the 75 ohm coax directly
onto the driven loop.
It worked well, cost me nothing, and only took an hour or so to make.
